PW was cooperative.
Although his information is limited, report seems reliable.
During interrogation PW complained about a finger wound.

On 26 Dec 50 PW heard from his Battalion CO at HWACHON that there were eight Corps; The Ⅱ Corps was composed of 2nd, 5th, 8th & 31st Div’s, and that the 50th Regt, 15th Div was soon to be integrated into the 2nd Division. The 45th and 48th Regts of the 15th Division were going to be integrated into the 31st Division. The 15th Division will therefore be completely deactivated. Reason for this planned reorganization unknown. PW also heard that the 2nd Division was composed of 4th, 6th and 17th Inf Regts.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (As of 29 Dec 50)
The 50th Regt’s original mission was to proceed to SAMGO-RI (phonetic) where the 2nd Div was located. Its next mission was to capture HONGCHON (DS0271). Since the UN Forces were at the 38th parallel and not protecting the central route of the Korean peninsula, they could advance south easily.
PW heard that the 8th Div was in the vicinity of CHUNCHON (CS8893).
PW was inducted into the 15th Div, Med Bn Hq, on 5 Jul 50 at PYONGYANG (YD3820). He was commissioned a Lieutenant upon induction. Received no training.

Three men, including the PW, joined the 50th Regt o/a 20 Dec 50. There were 300 original 50th Regt troops and 500 recruits who were gathered from the surrounding area. Their mission was to harass through guerilla warfare the UN Forces.
50th Regiment left:
SINGYE 20 Dec 50, marched, arrived POKYE-RI (CT4955) 22 Dec 50.
POKYE RI 22 Dec 50, marched, arrived PYONGYANG 23 Dec 50.
PYONGYANG 24 Dec 50, marched, arrived KUMHWA 25 Dec 50.
KUMHWA (CT6538) 25 Dec 50, marched, arrived KWACHON (CT8717) 26 Dec 50.
HWACHON 26 Dec 50, marched, crossed 38th parallel 26 Dec 50.
Arrived 8 Km South of 38th parallel in a village called CHUNGJONG-NI on 28 Dec 50.
PW was in a farm house because he had a high fever and was captured on 29 Dec 50.

5. PERSONALITIES:
HWANG, Tu So (황두서), Colonel, CO, 50th Regiment.
KIM, Tu Kil (김두길), Major, CO, 2nd Battalion, 50th Regiment.

6. REPLACEMENTS:
On 20 Dec 50, at SINGYE, 500 recruits were gathered from the surrounding area and were placed into the 50th Inf Regiment.

7. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
While at SINGYE between 15 Oct 50 to 20 Dec 50, ammo was acquired from ambushed convoys and whatever could be found on the road. Food was gathered from villages.
Before crossing the 38th parallel at HWACH’ON 26 Dec 50, troops of the 50th Inf Regt got ammo and weapons from homes of civilians who had retained these secretly. Amount of weapons and ammo acquired in this manner was unknown.

8. MORALE:
The morale in the unit was low because the troops had to travel through cold nights with heavy loads and slept only in the day time. The combat effectiveness of more than 50% of the 50th Regiment was poor because they were recruits who had not received any training.

9. SIGNAL INFORMATION:
Communication between Regiment, Battalion and Companies was by line telephone. Each Company had one telephone. Each Battalion had one telephone.

10. MEDICAL:
PW stated that his duties in the Med Bn Hq was to treat wounds. When he was inducted, he was given a commission and placed into the Medical Battalion without any medical training because he had one year of Medical School. PW did not receive any immunization.
While PW was at the YONGDUNGP’O field hospital between 15 Jul 50 to d/u Sep 50, when treating wounded, he used Japanese-made pin sets, scissors, scapels, and long steel equipment to place medicine in wounds.
Medicine was insufficient.

11. CCF:
PW did not see any CCF troops but heard that they were in KOREA.

12. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
(1) PW voluntarily surrendered to the ROK troops because he was sick.
b. Did you see any United Nations leaflets or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts?
(1) PW did not see any UN leaflets.
