2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but lacked information due to ignorance of place names in Korea and bad memory.
PW seemed dull.
Information seems fairly reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF UNIT:
40th Army: 118th, 119th and the 120th Inf Divisions.
118th Division: 352nd, 353rd and the 354th Inf Regiments.
353rd Regiment: 3 Rifle Battalions.
Each Inf Bn: 3 Rifle and 1 Heavy Weapons Companies.
Each Rifle Co: 3 Rifle Platoons.
Heavy Weapons Co: 2 HMG Platoons and 1 Mortar Platoon.
Each Rifle Plat: 3 Rifle Squads.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
The entire 353rd Regiment crossed the 38th Parallel, 2 Jan 51 during the early part of the evening. At 030200 Jan 51, they attacked in unknown UN unit and was repulsed at 0400 after heavy UN shelling.
PW deserted his unit on 3 Jan 51 and surrendered to an unknown ROK unit on 031600 Jan 51.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted Feb 44 into the CNA at SHANTUNG (山東).
Captured April 50 by the CCF 40th Army on HAINAN Island and was assigned to the present unit.
The entire 40th Army departed HAINAN Island April 50 and arrived at ANTUNG (安東) the same month.
PW received 3 months training with the CCF in ANTUNG.
The 118th Division departed ANTUNG Sep 50 (date unk), as the forward element of the 40th Army.
Place of crossing the YALU River into Korea was unknown.
No details are available from then, until time PW was captured. No place, names or dates are available.

6. REPLACEMENTS:
PW could not offer any information as to how or when causalities are replaced.
The source of replacements and system of replacing losses was unknown.
PW did not know anything of units being withdrawn for the replacement of causalities.

7. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food was procured from the villages and towns through the Korean interpreters, employed by the CCF units.
2 meals were received daily.

8. MORALE:
Since leaving ANTUNG many soldiers died of sickness due to their being exposed to the weather. Estimate not available.
The troops feared aircraft attack and shelling most.
Morale was low.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
PW's father was killed by the CCF in 1946 because he had a son serving with the CNA. PW had a personal hate for the communists and thought of escaping many times. His opportunity came after reading the UN leaflets. The leaflets read: Good treatment will be given, so surrender to either the ROK or other UN forces. When surrendering, travel only on large roads and raise your hands or show the leaflets to the nearest UN unit.
PW believed the contents of the leaflets but was unable to surrender earlier.
No discussion was heard among the soldiers concerning the leaflets.
