Information given by PW cannot be judged because of poor memory and limited knowledge.
Not recommended for further interrogation.
PW and 2 others were sent as scouts ahead of the Recon Plat (40 men). Recon Plat was approx 2 km north of where they were captured (DS2743). Recon Plat was located approx 12 km south of 27th Regt.
27th Regt left HWACH’ON 10-12 days ago and arrived in general vicinity of (DS2565) 3 or 4 days ago.
29th Regt was with the 27th Regt approx 4 km apart.
25th Regt and the 10th Div Hqs were believed to be located approx 12 km east of HONCHONG 3 days ago. This 10th Div fought at SONGJU (near NAKTONG River) and retreated to HWACH’ON o/a 15 Oct 50, where they reorganized. The 10th Div is made up of 25th, 27th and 29th Regts.
Bns of the 27th Regt consisted of approx (500-600 men) each, and strength of Regt approx 1800 men.
Weapons in the 27th Regt: 2 or 3 HMGs per Bn - 1000 rds/gun, 3xMortars (1 US 60mm and 2 Russian 82mm). All soldiers were armed except for approx 300 recruits. Majority did not carry hand grenades.
27th Regt has 120mm Mortar Co (no mortars, only personnel), 45mm Antitank gun Co (no gun, only personnel), Comm Co, and SMG Co (approx 60 PPSH SMGs).
Each Bn has an Antitank rifle plat with about 15 Antitank rifles.
Telephones and runners are used for communication between Regt and Bn.
Uniform: All of the 27th Regt soldiers are wearing the winter uniforms. 27th Regt engaged in battle only once 3 days after leaving HWACH’ON.
The 29th Regt has about 500 men less than the 27th Regt (overheard an officer).
Misc: The weather did not affect the troops too greatly. The rate of casualties from the weather about a man every 10 days. There is no hospital facilities or aid station within the Regt but only the aid men, therefore seriously wounded or ill cannot be taken care of.
Rumor: PW overheard from his Plat Ldr that the objective of the 10th Div is ANDONG, NE of TAEGU.
