PW is very unreliable. Contradicts his statements and vague in his answers. Not recommended for further interrogation.
Mission of PW and 11 others was to reconnoiter WONJU, HONGSHONG an HONGCH’ONG area, as to enemy disposition and check on refugee movement. None armed but had on uniforms (winter).
Name of some of the members of the group:
CH’OE Te Yu, OM Yong Ha, CH’OE Te Hyon, KIM Yong Kil, KIM Yong Jo, CH’OE Yong Su, CHUNG Pom Hwa. They were to operate in groups of three.
When PW left unit 22 Dec 50, it was still at ODAE-SAN (vic DS6573). Observed 30 shelters, 15 each dug into side of Mt on both sides of stream, wooden roofs covered with dirt. Shelters 30’x20’ approx 15-30 feet apart. Approx 100 men per shelter (100x30-3,000 men).
3 days prior to leaving unit, heard that 8th Div was to go to SINNAM (vic DS8786) to fight.
8th Div CG rank u/k PAK Yo Un.
One half armed with SMGs and rifles only. They have been in ODAE-SAN since early Oct 50.
Heard that there were 500 NK troops in SINNAM. Approx 2000 troops of 8th Div received winter uniforms at SINNAM.
This 12 men group was to report back to ODAE-SAN after 15 days. This group was to meet at HONGCHONG-GUN, SOSONG-MYON, CHORONG KOGE (?) in wooded area (pine) located approx 2-3 miles east of CHRONG KOGE 2000 3 Jan 50.
Remarks: Until further confirmation on the identification of this unit, it should be reported as a “Unit Force.”
PW came into PW enclosure with 7th Div marked on his tag.
IPW interrogation revealed that he was from 8th Div, 8th Regt and then changed to 2nd Div and then back to 8th Div, 8th Regt. Doubt if PW knows his unit identification.
