FIELD REPORT (2 - LDI - 0050) 2 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: PAK Chan Bong (23)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Due to his ignorance he did not have any tactical information of value. What little information obtained from him seems fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
PW was left behind by his unit on 30 Dec 50 after taking ill. He stayed at an unknown village and after getting well, he traveled south for one day where he met UN troops and surrendered.
12th Div left KANGGYE 5 Nov 50 and crossed the 38th parallel 25 Dec 50. The 3rd Regt followed the 1st and 2nd Regt and managed to cross without contact. He heard from Co CO that 1st and 2nd Regts were engaged by ROK troops and fought their way through. After they crossed the 38th parallel, they headed south following the TAEBEK Mt Range.
The Division’s mission was to go to the east coast then cut back in a southwest direction cutting supply lines; setting up road blocks.
At location where PW separated from unit, he saw elements of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Regt. PW was told by the Co CO that the whole Div of 9000 men were in this area. The 3 Regts were never committed in battle and they had all their men and equipment intact. (sic)
Weapons: PW observed the following weapons 15 Nov 50 within Div:
10 x 82mm mortars - 2 rounds carried per squad. (Each Plat carried 2 anti-tank grenades.)
LMG - 1 to each Sqd - 500 rds each.
Rifles - 200 rds per man.
SMGs - u/k No. - 400 rds per gun.
Every man was armed and carried own ammo.
Clothing & Supply: Two cotton padded reversible winter uniforms issued in KANGGYE; one extra cotton, rubber-sole shoes; 3 days ration of rice (never consumed, states that each man still has ration); one overcoat per squad, worn by men of special duty.
