Due to a stomach disorder PW was left behind when his unit retreated. Captured by elements of 5th RCT. PW was cooperative but of below average intelligence. Evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Held rank of Private First Class in the Nationalist Army. PW was engaged in farming prior to entering service.
a. Chronology:
PW was inducted into the CNA at KUICHUSONG 15 Dec 46. Captured by the CCF at KWANSHU-SONG Nov 49. Immediately interned at HOPEI-SUNG, UCHUNG-SHIEN. At this location all ex-Nationalist troops received six months of Communist indoctrination. No military training received. Upon completion assigned to the 38th Army, 112th Div, 334th Regt, 2nd Bn, 5th Co. Crossed into North KOREA on or about 20 Oct 50. Crossed the 38th parallel on or about 1 Jan 51. The 2nd Bn arrived in vic of present location on or about 27 Jan 51. 2nd Bn CP located 1.2 km N from place of capture. At this location approx 500 CCF troops armed with mortars (2 x 81mm) and rifles deployed on mountains. No arty pieces, tanks or vehicles observed.
b. PW’s Unit or Group:
38th Army composed of 112th, 113th and 114th Divisions.

Each sqd armed with 2 M-3 SMGs. No knowledge of Arty pieces. No knowledge of armored units attached to the 38th Army. No knowledge of rocket launcher or rockets being used by CCF troops.
d. Food & Ammo:
Food procured from villagers. Each man supplied with 50 rds of rifle ammo approx 10 days ago.
e. Morale:
Troops are demoralized by incessant air strikes and arty fire. Also lack of food and warm clothing. Estimated one half of troops suffering from frostbitten feet. No knowledge of troops suffering from typhus or other communicable diseases.
f. Knowledge of Other CCF Units in KOREA:
Prior to crossing 38th parallel heard from political leader that 39th, 40th, 42nd and 50th Armies located in KOREA. Present locations unknown. No knowledge of Communist CHINA intending to reinforce their current military strength in KOREA with CCF troops known to be in MANCHURIA.
g. Casualties:
Received heavy arty fire on or about 301500 Jan 51. Approx 6 men killed in platoon.
