FIELD REPORT (164 MISDI - 1412) 24 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: MYONG, In Po (明仁保) (명인보) (NKA)

ORGANIZATION: II Corps, 10th Div, Arty Regt (26th Regt), Regt Band

OCCUPATION: Unemployed because of tuberculosis
ADDRESS: HANGYONG NAMDO, ANBYON GUN, ANBYON MYON, SANHWA SAN RI, # 314 (함경남도 안변군 안변면 산화산리)
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 21 Jan 51 in the vic of TANYANG (DR3988)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Information very limited but reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
II Corps composed of the 2nd Div, 6th Div and two or three unknown Divisions.
10th Division up to 27 Dec 50, consisted of approx 8,000 troops (present strength believed to be about 5,000).
10th Division was composed of the 26th Regt (Div Arty), 25th, 27th and 29th Inf Regts.
26th Regt (Div Arty) was composed 3 Bns, Sig Co, Band Plat and Medical Plat. 26th Regts original strength was approx 900 troops. The present strength is estimated at 450 troops.
Arty Bn composed of 3 Btry’s, Btry was made up of 3 sections. A section was composed of 3 sqds of 12 men each.

No of Arty pieces unknown because PW was in the Regt band.
The 26th Regt (10th Div, Div Arty), as of the middle part of Sep 50, did not have artillery. All of the artillery pieces were either destroyed or buried when the Div retreated from the NAKTONG River.

4. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
O/a 11 Jan 51 the 10th Div Hqs and all elements of the division were in the vicinity of TANYANG (DR3988). The PW heard that his Division’s mission was to go to ANDONG (DR7646) for the purpose of conducting guerrilla warfare within US positions.

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted 7 Apr 50, at P’YONGYANG with 30 others and assigned to the 10th NK Div, Arty Regt, Regt Band.
PW trained as a bandman between Apr 50 to 15 Jul 50. On 15 Jul 50, the PW was sent to the CHAGAN GUN OLY MYON, because of TB. The PW was at the CHAGANDO TB Sanitarium until about 15 Nov 50.
15 Nov 50, the PW was released by the sanitarium and was told by the sanitarium director to go to HWACHON (CT8617) because the 10th Div was in the vicinity. Upon arrival at HWACHON o/a 10 Dec 50, the PW was reassigned to his original unit, the Div Arty Band.
On 27 Dec 50, the 10th Div and its elements were ordered to infiltrate US positions by the II NK Corps.
From HWACHON, the PW’s unit marched to YANGGU (DT1117) under cover of darkness, arriving there on the morning of 28 Dec 50.
From YANGGU, the PW’s unit marched over mountain trails in single files at night to Mt. OTESAN (date of arrival unknown). From Mt OTESAN, the PW’s unit marched through the TAEBAEK mountain Range until they arrived in the vicinity of TANYANG o/a 11 Jan 51.
O/a 11 Jan 51, the PW became ill, due to his tuberculosis and separated from his unit. Between 12 Jan 51, until taken prisoner of war he was in the vicinity of TANYANG, recovering. 17 Jan 51, the PW was captured by a ROK patrol.

7. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
When departing for S KOREA, the troops in the 10th Division were issued 4 days rations. When this ration was exhausted they replenish their supplies by making sporadic raids along their route of march.
When departing N KOREA each rifleman was issued 60 rds. At present the rifleman has an average of about 30 rds.

8. MORALE:
Morale of the 10th Division troops very low because of the lack of food, clothing, trench foot, and frost bite.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
