2. ASSESSMENT:

The 2nd Div was under the II Corps.
II Corps: 2nd, 10th, 31st Divs and approx 2 unknown regiments.
2nd Div: 17th, 4th, 6th Rifle Regts, Arty Regt, Engr Bn, Signal Bn, Medical Bn, Guard Co, Recon Co, Transportation Co, and Training Bn.
Engineer Bn: 2 Basic Engineer Companies (1st, 2nd), Training Co, River Crossing Co (渡河中隊), Machine Plat, and Hq Plat.
Each Basic Engineer Co was composed of 3 Plats.
Training Co was composed of 3 Engineer Plats.
River Crossing Co was composed of 3 Plats.
Machine Plat was composed of Electric Sqd, Repair Sqd and Transportation Sqd.
Headquarters Plat was composed of Recon Sqd and Signal Sqd.
Each Inf Regiment was composed of 3 Inf Bns, HMG Co, Mortar Co, Signal Co, SMG Co, Engr Plat, 45mm Mortar Plat, Medical Plat and Recon Plat.

There was no engineer equipment or ammunition for the battalion.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
2nd Div Hq was located at 10 Km North of CHUK RYONG (竹■) (Vic of TANYANG, DR3987) on 16 Jan 51.
2 Engineer Platoons were ordered to destroy the highway, bridges and tunnels between CHUK RYONG and TANYANG (DR3987) on 16 Jan 51.
These 2 Engineer Platoons started from the 2nd Div area on 161500 Jan 51 to destroy the road and bridges.
1 Inf Bn with 300 men guarded these 2 Engineer Platoons, while they destroyed the highway and bridges. Details on this project were not available.
Approximately 330 North Korean troops climbed a large unknown hill, 2 Km South of the 2nd Div Hq and were engaged with US troops for 5 hours. Meanwhile the 2 Engineer Platoons destroyed the highway and one concrete bridge on 17 Jan 51.
The 2 Engineer Platoons of 30 men remained in the area because the security battalion had already left the area.
These 2 Engineer Platoons arrived at SUKAE (首■) 20 Jan 51 where they engaged ROK troops for 3 hours and lost all but eight men who were taken prisoners of war.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted into the 2nd Div, Engineer Bn on 1 Jan 50 at HAMHUNG (CV7517).
Received basic engineer training until he left HAMHUNG on 15 Jun 50 by train.
