PW was cooperative and answered all questions freely. However his tactical information was limited. He does not warrant further interrogation.
PW was inducted into the army 11 Aug 50 at UIJONGBU as a forced volunteer. His unit at that time was called “Volunteer Unit” (GIYUGUN) and had no other unit designation.
13 Sep 50 he was assigned to the 98th Regt, 6th Bn, 2nd Co, 3rd Plat, 3rd Sqd at SARIWON. He and 700 others received basic training until 28 Sep 50, after which they marched to TOKCH’ON where the 98th Regt was integrated into the 249th Brigade.
The 249th Brigade consisted of 7 Inf Bns with 300 men to each Bn. Each Bn consisted of 3 companies of 90 men each.
80% of the troops of the 249th Brigade were either armed with SMGs, Russ Rifles or Jap Rifles (100 rds ea) and 20 HMGs.
O/a 20 Oct 50, the 249th Brigade departed TOKCH’ON for KANGGYE (BA9838) and arrived there 1 Nov 50. O/a 21 Nov 50, they marched to YONCH’ON, arriving 19 Dec 50, where they remained for sometime. 21 Nov 50 he and another were ordered by the Sqd Ldr to inquire whether there was a route to UIJONGBU via POCH’ON (CS4495) because the main road to UIJONGBU was dangerous. O/a 18 Dec he saw 300 CCF troops of an unknown unit bivouacked in ICHON. They were armed with SMGs, Jap Rifles, Russ Rifles, Pistols and had about 3 Hand Grenades each. 19 Dec he saw approx 300 CCF troops of an unknown unit bivouacked in UPNE RI (CT3118). They were armed with SMGs, Jap and Russ Rifles, Pistols and had 3 Hand Grenades each. On 3 Dec 50 while at YONCH’ON he heard from his squad leader that the NKA Div and 6th Div was located at an unknown area near the 38th parallel.
The mission of the 249th Brigade, according to the squad leader, was to capture UIJONGBU via POCH’ON, however, he did not know when or how they intended to accomplish their mission.
