2. ASSESSMENT:
Intelligent, cooperative. Reliability - good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
1 Aug 50: Conscripted into 226th Brig (about 3,000 men) as a Pvt 8 km N of WONSAN. Two weeks later, unit started for SEOUL on foot.
1 Sep 50: Arrived SEOUL. 226th Brig was deployed between INCHON and SEOUL to defend INCHON Harbor.
26 Sep 50: Started to retreat on foot.
Middle of Nov 50: Arrived UIJU (義州) via KOKSAN (谷山) and UNSAN (雲山).
End of Nov 50: Moved to MANP'OJIN (滿浦鎭) on foot, via SINUIJU (新義州) KOREA, ANTUNG (安東) MANCHURIA and a place a few km S of MUKDEN MANCHURIA. PW was in MANCHURIA 4 days. 236th Brig deactivated due to 70% losses while engaged at INCHON (仁川). Men transferred to 26th Brigade. Received 7.62 mm M1891/30 rifles and winter clothes.
Middle of Dec 50: Arrived PYONGYANG on foot and received 40 rds ammo per man. After 3 days, started for CHINNAMP'O (鎭南浦). PW's Bn rested between PYONGYANG and CHINNAMP'O (鎭南浦).
6 Jan 50: Arrived CHODO (猪島) Island approx 4 km S of CHINNAMP'O and engaged the Security Police consisting of young anti-Communists. No losses to either side.
7 Jan 50: On the way to CHANGYON (長連), engaged the Security Police. Chief of Staff, 26th Brigade, was wounded (PW believed mortally), 5 other men were wounded, others retreated into the mountains and PW surrendered.

14.5mm RT Rifle - 9
7.62 M1941 SMG - Each Sqd Ldr carried one.
45mm AT gun plat and AA gun plat had no guns. They were used as inf plats.

c. Communication:
Battalion:
5 or 6 field phones, Japanese made.

d. Disposition:
When last heard of (6 Jan 51) 26th Brigade was in the vicinity of CHINNAMP'O (鎭南浦).

e. Intentions:
26th Brigade ordered to defend the west coast.

f. Morale:
Morale was low because unit consisted of recruits.

g. Supply:
Each man carried 3 days rations and 150 - 200 rds ammo for 7.62mm 1891/30 rifles.

h. Other Units:
12th Div, Arty Regt was located in the vicinity of CHINNAMP'O. This div came from MANCHURIA just before the 26th brig.

i. Weapons Feared Most:
Strafing
Rockets from aircraft.
