2. ASSESSMENT:
Uncooperative, unintelligent, memory poor. Reliability – Poor.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
15 Dec 50: Inducted into the NKA at INJAE (麟蹄). Assigned to 3rd Brigade, 7th Bn, 1st Co.
6 Jan 51: His unit arrived in CHONGSON (旌善) via HYON-NI (縣里), HOENGGYE-RI (橫溪里), YEUH’ON-NI (■寸里).
8 Jan 51: His unit advanced to NANDONG-NI (■同里).
9 Jan 51: Returned to CHONGSON (旌善) to take care of the wounded left behind line.
11 Jan 51: At CHONGSON (旌善) PW with 4 wounded were captured by a recon patrol of the KROK Army.

4. ORGANIZATION:
Each Bn consisted of three Cos, each Co composing of approx 150-200 infantry men.
Strength:
Each Bn had Z LMG’s (USSR), 5MG’s, various types of small arms (US M-1 Rifles, carbines, Japanese Model 38 rifles, etc.).

Remarks: Heavy build, round face, dark yellow complexion, high rose.

6. CODE NAMES:
3rd Brigade was officially called KAYASAN (伽倻山), named after a mountain range believed to be located in SOUTH KOREA. Each Bn under the 3rd Brigade was called by designations as shown below.
7th Bn KONGJU (公州) Bn
Unidentified Bn YOSU (麗水) Bn
6th Bn CH’UNCCH’ON (春川) Bn
3rd Bn INCH’ON (仁川) Bn
Remarks: Each designation was taken from names of towns.
Among the soldiers a recon Plat, which was directly attached to the Hq of 3rd Brigade, was called “airplane” or “submarine”.

7. COMMUNICATIONS:
Runners only. No communication equipment.

8. INTENTIONS:
3rd Brigade was to reach YEMI-RI (禮美里) perimeter 10 Jan 51 and YONGWOL (寧越) perimeter 11 Jan 51.
Hearsay: 3rd Brigade was to take part in the attack on SEOUL (sic) via TANYANG (丹陽).

9. REPLACEMENTS:
No replacements were received.

10. MORALE:
Low because of insufficient supplies of food and arms.

11. TREATMENT OF WOUNDED:
Brigade aid station was always located with the Hq at 3rd Brig. Approx 3 miles behind the line. Minor wounded were treated there. Usually, the seriously wounded were carried back on stretchers to civilian hospitals to receive proper medical care.
There soldiers died of typhoid during the period from 20 Dec 50 to 8 Jan 51. Five other soldiers suffering from typhoid were put in a civilian hospital near P’YONGCH’ANG (平昌).
Supply of medicine was short.

12. SUPPLY:
Each man carried 3 days rations and 80 rds ammo for small arms. Ammo depots were not observed.
