1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was a farmer prior to being drafted into the CNA. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORAMTION:
a. Chronology:
PW was drafted into the CNA at KUNMING-HSIEN in Apr 45. In Oct 47, PW captured by the CCF in Manchuria and was integrated into the 50th Army, 148th Div, 442nd Regt, 3rd Bn. Nov 50, the 3rd Bn, 442nd Regt crossed the YALU River from ANTUNG. Since crossing the River all travelling was done on foot at night mostly over mountain trails. O/a 28 Dec 50, the 442nd Regt forded the TAEDONG River at an unknown location. 442nd Regt then crossed the HAN River at an unknown location o/a 2 Jan 51. O/a 6 Jan 51, PW became a straggler due to fatigue from marching, and while heading South, looking for his unit, he was captured by the I & R Plat of the 27th Regt vic CS2806 on 101130 Jan 51.

b. Unit Organization and Strength:
50th Army consisted of the 148th, 149th, and 150th Divs. 148th Div consisted of the 442nd, 443rd, and 444th Regts. 442nd Regt consisted of 3 Rifle Bns, Sig Co, and 82mm Mortar Co. 3rd Bn, 442nd Regt consisted of 3 Rifle Cos and a HMG Co.

c. Equipment:
HMG Co had 3 HMGs (1,500 rds per HMG), approx 10 rifles, and 4 hand grenades per Squad (10-12 men).
Each Rifle Co had 3 HMG and u/k number of rifles.
PW observed 4 x 82mm mortars in the Mortar Co. Telephones were the only type of signal equipment observed by PW.

d. Unit Assignment and Intention:
O/a 1 Jan 51, PW heard from his friends that the objective of the 442nd Regt was to capture ICHON (CS6227). Present mission unknown.

e. Disposition:
PW has no knowledge of units in the operational or rear areas.

f. Communication:
Communication between Bn Hq and lower echelons was by runners. Telephones and messengers were used between Bn Hq and higher echelons.

g. Personalities:
TAN (Phonetic) Plat Ldr 1st Plat, HMG Co, 3rd Bn, 442nd Regt.
YOUNG (Phonetic) Co CO HMG Co, 3rd Bn, 442nd Regt.

h. Armor and Artillery:
No tanks or arty pieces were observed by PW.

i. Morale and Propaganda:
PW observed many “Surrender Leaflets”, however, did not pick them up. All men were instructed to gather all leaflets and take them to their Plat Ldrs.
Morale of PW's unit was low due to lack of clothing, severe cold, and fatigue from ■arching.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was foraged from villages whenever possible. Supplies were usually transported by foot soldiers due to mountainous terrain over which the unit usually travelled. The initial supply of ammunition was carried by ammo bearers from CHINA. No additional ammo was received since PW’s unit arrived in KOREA.

b. Replacements:
No replacements were received by PW’s unit since entering KOREA.

c. Foreign Advisor, Technicians and Troops:
One Korean interpreter was attacked to his Co. This interpreter wore the NKA uniform and came with the unit from CHINA, Name and rank of the interpreter unknown.
