2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and fairly intelligent. Reliability – Fair.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
21 Jul 47 – Enlisted in the NKA. Assigned to Guard Unit of SINUIJU prison without training.
Stationed there for about two months.
21 Sep 47 – With about 30 other men, reassigned to the Independent Security Brigade, 2nd Bn, 6th Co, 2nd Plat, 3rd Sqd as Pvt. Unit was attached to the Home Affairs Department and was stationed at CHINNAMP’O (鎭南浦). Received five months basic training.
24 Sep 48 – 2nd Bn moved to MUSAN (茂山) as border guard between NK and MANCHURIA. Stationed there for above three months.
2 Dec 48 – PW was reassigned to the 3rd Brigade. Transportation Co, 3rd Plat, 3rd Sqd as Pvt at SARIWON (沙里院).
Apr 49 – Promoted to Sqd Ldr of 3rd Plat.
24 Aug 49 – Transferred to the 7th Brigade, Transportation Co, Motor Repair Plat, Repair Sqd as Sqd Ldr at SIBYON-NI (市辺里).
Dec 49 – Reassigned to the Border Guard Bn, 3rd Co, 1st Plat, as Sr/Sgt at SINUIJU.
29 Mar 50 – Moved to HWANGJU (黃州) and reassigned to HWANGJU (黃州). Training Bn, 3rd Co as M/Sgt.
30 May 50 – Reassigned to the 3rd Brigade, Medical Unit as clerk of Supply Section.
Early Part of Jul 50 – 3rd Brigade departed for South KOREA.
10 Jul 50 – Arrived SEOUL by truck via KAESONG (開城). 3rd Brigade redesignated the 9th Div.
10 Sep 50 – Arrived in the vicinity of YONGSANG (靈山). Combat troops of 9th Div crossed NAXTONG River. PW with about 100 men remained behind.
30 Sep 50 – PW’s Medical Unit retreated across the 38th parallel. 9th Div was disorganized.
5 Nov 50 – Reorganized at HUP’YONG (后坪) with 6,000 men. Received orders to occupy area between HUP’YONG and the 38th parallel. PW was commissioned Jr. Lt.
1 Jan 51 – 9th Div crossed the 38th parallel via KUMHWA (金化) and CHORWON (鉄原).
13 Jan 51 – Medical Unit arrived YONGWOL (寧越) with 90 men. Location of 9th Div, further south.
14 Jan 51 – Captured by the ROK 7th Div, 8th Regt while moving to OKTONG (玉洞).

5. HISTORY:
9th Div was originally organized in SALIWON (沙里院) as the 3rd Brigade on 21 Dec 48. This brigade consisted of seven infantry Bns.
10 Jul 50, 3rd Brigade was redesignated the 9th Div at SEOUL. As of 14 Jan 51, this Div consists of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Regts, Arty Bn, Sig Bn, Eng Bn, Recon Co, Guard Plat and Med Unit.

9. DISPOSITION:
When last observed, the 9th Div was located in the vicinity of OKTONG (玉洞), on 14 Jan 51.

10. INTENTIONS:
9th Div, 5000 strong, was ordered to infiltrate behind enemy lines and cut off supply routes.

11. MORALE:
Low, due to lack of supply, poor weapons and 10 numerical strength.

12. REPLACEMENTS:
After 10 Aug 50, no replacements were received.

13. SUPPLY:
After 5 Nov 50, no rations were received. Lived off the land. Each man carried over 100 rds.
