PW was cooperative and above average intelligence. Reliability, fair.
a. Chronology:
4 Aug 50: Inducted into the NKA. Assigned HWANJU (黃州) NCO Training Regt, 3rd Bn, 2nd Co, 1st Plat, 1st Sqd. Approx 2500 others were inducted with PW.
31 Aug 50: Completed training. Promoted to Sgt.
1 Sep 50: Departed HWANGJU by train.
15 Sep 50: Arrived KUMCH’ON (金泉). Departed same day on foot.
20 Sep 50: Arrived KOCH’ANG (■昌). Assigned 4th Sqd, 3rd Plat, 2nd Co, 43rd Bn, 110th Regt, Security Unit as sqd ldr.
25 Sep 50: 110th Regt departed KOCHANG.
27 Sec 50: Arrived NAMWON (南原) via HYOPCH’ON (陜川) and HAMYANG (咸陽). Received orders to retreat. Was fired upon and 110th Regt was disorganized.
27 Nov 50: Retreated to YANDOK (陽德) via TANYANG (丹陽) and YANGGU (楊口). Reassigned 2nd Sqd, 1st Plat, 1st Co, 1st Bn, 45th Regt, 31st Div, 2nd Corps as sqd ldr.
1 Dec 50: 45th Regt only fought against ROK. After the 4th attack entered MAJON-NI (馬轉里). 30 dead, 50 wounded.
5 Dec 50: Departed MAJON-NI (馬轉里)
8 Dec 50: Arrived WONSAN (元山). After a 4 hour battle entered WONSAN.
12 Dec 50: 31st Div, assembled at WONSAN for security purposes. Received naval fire and ordered to retreat.
13 Dec 50: Arrived at point 12 km W of TONGCH’ON (通川).
23 Dec 50: Arrived YANGGU (楊口). Fought against ROKA units for 3 days, vicinity of 38th Parallel. 50% of 31st Div was killed by air and arty.
29 Dec 50: Disorganized 31st Div, arrived at INJE (麟蹄), with approx 2,000.
31 Dec 50: 31st Div received 500 replacements at INJE.
1 Jan 51: 31st Div, with strength of 2,500 crossed the 38th Parallel, and arrived TANGYANG (丹陽). Fought against ROKA but was defeated.
25 Jan 51: Retreated to CHINBU-RI (珍富里) with 2,000 men. Rested 10 days.
7 Feb 51: 31st Div was surrounded by ROKA and SIN-NI (新里) retreated disorderly. PW was captured here and taken to P’YONGCH’ANG (平昌).

d. Disposition:
When last observed 31st Div was retreating from SIN-NI (新里) in disorder 7 Feb 51.
e. Morale:
Low because of air attacks and lack of supplies.
f. Replacements:
On or around 31 Dec 50, 31st Div received 500 replacements. PW heard that these replacements arrived from KANGGYE (江界) on foot, without any training, or weapons.
g. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
Seriously wounded personnel were left behind.
h. Supply:
Each man carried 2 days rations and 20 rounds of ammo for small arms, plus 1 to 2 hand grenades. For 5 persons one (1) anti-tank grenade was carried. No ammo for 120mm mortars. Mortars were pulled by hand as trucks were destroyed.
