a. Chronology:
9 Oct 50: Conscripted into the NKA and assigned to 31st Div, 1st Regt at CHIP’O-RI (芝浦里).
10 Oct 50: Started to retreat to YONGT’AN-DONG (龍灘洞).
7 Nov 50: Arrived YONGT’AN-DONG with approx 500 men. Reorganized the 31st Div with approx 2,000 men from the various retreating Div.
20 Dec 50: Departed YONGT’AN DONG.
20 Dec 50 - 25 Dec 50: Advanced up to YONGWOL (寧越).
27 Dec 50: Started to retreat.
7 Feb 51: Arrived P’YONGCH’ANG. Here PW deserted his unit and was captured.

c. Unit History (hearsay):
31st Div was formerly the SEOUL Guard Brigade (서울 防御旅団) which was organized around Aug 50 from the men who were inducted from the KYONGGIDO (京畿道) Area. This Brigade composed of 70% “Volunteer Corps” and 30% NKA.
Sep 50, just before the retreat they organized the 31st Div from this Brigade.

e. Intentions:
When 31st Div departed YONGT’AN-DONG (龍灘洞) 20 Dec 50, their intention was to advance up to ANDONG (安東).
f. Morale:
Low, because they lacked arms and ammo.
g. Replacements:
Half of the 15th Div came as replacements around 10 Jan 51 at the vicinity of ICH’ON (伊川).
h. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
When the men were wounded or sick they were left behind in the nearby villages.
i. Supply:
Each man carried 2 days ration and 60 rounds of ammo for small arms.
j. Weapons Feared Most:
Napalm bomb.
