2. ASSESSMENT:
PW fairly cooperative, memory poor. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Mission:
27th and 29th Regt objective was TAEGU. Recon Co was forward observer for both Regt. 7 Feb 51, 27th, 29th Regt had planned to set road blocks on highway, vicinity TANGPYONG NI (ER 1910), attack district (MYON) food warehouse, and secure food. 10th Div and attached units advanced with 25th Regt.

b. Strength of Unit: as of 7 Feb 51 at MAEBONG SAN (ER 0919)
27th and 29th Regt combined - approx 2,500
768th Recon Co - 66
Overall Officers - approx 110

c. Communications:
Signal: 3rd rapid firing with pistol - “Emergency”, “Assembly” for 27th and 29th Regt.
Whistle: One long - Div fall in.
Two short blast - Co fall in.
“TON DEH” - Communication Bn fall in.
“I DAE” - Medical Co fall in.
“KYONG DAE” - Security Bn fall in.

d. Code Names:
The following code names were used:
10th Div - “TU MEN GANG”
25th Regt - “KUN GANG”
27th Regt - “AMNOK GANG”

e. Chronology:
3 Apr 50: Volunteered in NK Army, 10th Div Hq, 736 Med Bn at SUKCH’ON, North KOREA. Had 4 months training; first aid and infantry.
28 Jul 50: Completed training, set drive south. Combat area covered; P’YONGYANG, KAESONG, SEOUL, TAEJON and KORYONG. Retreated 27 Oct 50.
O/a 28 Dec 50: 768th Recon Co attached to 10th Div at HWACH’ON, North KOREA, set drive across 38th Parallel. Original strength of 10th Div, approx 3500.
O/a 18 Jan 51: Took CHUNCHON, KAPYONG, HONGCHONG. 27th and 29th Regt rested 10 days. Next objective was ANDONG.
4 Feb 51: 27th and 29th Regt were located in vicinity OKRYDONG (ER 1818). Received series of air attacks. Approx 20 KIA, 30 WIA.
5 Feb 51: Units arrived U■AE DONG (ER 0222).
6 Feb 51: Assembled at MAEDONG SAN (ER 1809). 20-30 guerrillas were always in vicinity.
7 Feb 51: While on patrol at TANGPONG NI (ER 1010) PW was captured.

h. Status of Supply:
Obtained food from villagers, gave them receipt and told them Hq will later pay them. Took shelter in villages when permitted.

i. Other Units:
7 Feb 51 2100 hr, 27th and 29th Regt were located 4 to 5 km NW in vicinity SANGON NI (ER 1910).

j. Foreign Elements:
Heard CCF troops near TAEJON; will send air force and tanks as soon as 27th and 29th Regt take TAEGU.

k. UN Weapons Most Feared:
Feared artillery barrage and air attacks.

l. Morale: high on the whole.

m. Mission:
Recon Co received direct orders from G-2. Obtained information on enemy strength, weapons, units and terrain. Groups usually consisted of 5, of which 1 or 2 acted as forward observer. Regt also sent scouts from their respective units. Report to G-2.

n. US PW:
Heard 27th Regt captured 2 Americans at CHUNGCHONG o/a 5 Feb 51. No further information on PW. Men were constantly told by officers that Americans treated NK PW with violence.
