2. ASSESSMENT:
Well educated, but intelligent. Unobservant, fairly cooperative. Reliability, fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
16 Oct 50: Inducted into the NKA and assigned to the 458th Unit as Pvt at MUNCH’ON (文川) KOREA.
26 Oct 50: 458th unit retreated for CHANGJIN (長津) KOREA because of ROKA WONSAN (元山) landing. 458th Unit was unprepared for war.
3 Oct 50: Unit arrived CHANGJIN (長津) KOREA. Organized 38th Div with the strength of approx 10,000. Assigned as clerk of Hq Co.
6 Nov 50: 38th Div departed for SOPUK-DONG (小北洞) KOREA.
10 Nov 50: Arrived SOPUK-DONG (小北洞) KOREA. Received basic training for 15 days.
26 Nov 50: 38th Div departed for WONJU (原州) KOREA on foot, however, met enemy at TAEHWA-RI (大和里) KOREA.
28 Jan 51: Arrived TAEHWA-RI (大和里) KOREA via YONGWON (寧遠), YANGDOK (陽德), KOKSAN (谷山), ICHON (伊川), KUMHWA (金化), HWACH’ON (華川) and HONGCH’ON (洪川) KOREA.
29 Jan 51: 2 Bn of 38th Div joined with the 27th Div at TAEHWA-NI, KOREA. PW was promoted to Jr Sgt.
7 Feb 51: Captured in the vicinity of TAEHWA-RI, KOREA.

c. Disposition:
27th Div (as of 7 Feb 51):
32nd Regt was on a mountain, 8 km SW of PANGIM-RI (芳林里) KOREA and 14th Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co was on a mountain, approx 2 km SE of PANGIM-NI. Div Hq was 8 km SW of PANGIM-NI, rear of 32nd Regt. 14th Regt Hq was near Div Hq. Other Regt unknown.

d. Intention:
27th Div was to destroy enemy transportation lines avoiding contact with large enemy forces.

e. Morale:
Low, (14th Regt) because of high losses by air attack and arty fire.

f. Replacement:
No replacements were received since PW joined the 27th Div on 29 Feb 51.

g. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
Bn aid stations were usually located about 100 or 200 m behind Bn Hq. Light wounds were treated here, but seriously wounded were taken by stretcher to Regt aid station, however, wounded who could not be taken care of there were sent to the Div field hospital.

h. Supply:
Each man carried 3 days ration and 100 rounds of ammo for small arms.

i. Weapons Feared Most:
(1) Strafing
(2) Arty fire
