1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: MUN, Yong Ha (文用河) (문용하) (NKA)
ORGANIZATION: V Corps, 7th Div, 3rd Regt, 1st Bn (Code: NAJIN KANG 羅津江), 45mm Gun Plat.
DUTIES: Platoon Leader
EDUCATION: 2 years
AGE: 20
OCCUPATION: Laborer
ADDRESS: HWANGHAE DO, KUMCH’ON GUN, SOCH’ON MYON, SIBYON NI, #18 (황해도 금천군 서천면 시변리 18)
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 081600 I Feb 51 at CHIKTONG (DS 0708)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Information seems reliable, although limited.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Conscripted into the NKA on 15 Jan 50 and was assigned to the 38th Div located in HAMHUNG (CV7518). PW received training with the 38th Div until Sep 50 at HAMHUNG.
During Sep 50, the 38th Div departed HAMHUNG and fled northward through CHANGJIN (CV5171), CHILPYONG (CA2759) to HUCHANG (CA3886), arriving at HUCHANG Dec 50.
10 Dec 50, the 38th Div departed HUCHANG and marched southward through KOKSAN (BT9795) and YNAGGU (DT1621) into South KOREA, arriving at HOENGSONG (DS1149) o/a 21 Jan 51.
21 Jan 51, departed HOENGSONG and arrived at KAREGOL.
24 Jan 51, Div was deactivated and the troops were assigned to the 7th Div and other NKA units as replacements.
PW was assigned to the 7th Div, 3rd Regt, 1st Bn, 45mm Gun Plat, located on a hill 6 km SE of CHIKTONG.
On 6 Feb 51, PW became ill and was sent to the 7th Div Hospital located in CHIKTONG.
8 Feb 51, when ROK troops entered HOENGSONG PW and 12 other litter patients were captured as other NK troops fled.

b. Location and Activities of Units:
On 6 Feb 51, the 1st Bn, 3rd Regt, 7th Div was preparing defensive positions on the south slope of a hill located approx 6 km southeast of CHIKTONG (DS0708). HMG positions were located on top of the hill with 82mm Mortar positions located to the north of the hill. The hill was called “Camel Hill” (NAKTA KOJI - 酪駝高地). The first Bn was ordered to defend this position at all costs.
The CP of 3rd Regt, 7th Div was located approx 4 km southeast of CHIKTONG on 6 Feb 51.
The 7th Div Hq was located approx 2km southeast of CHIKTONG (직동) on 6 Feb 51.
The 6th Div was located 8 km west of the 7th Div Hq. The 12th Div was located 8 km west of the 6th Div on 6 Feb 51. The 3 Div (6th, 7th and 12th) were to defend these positions.
O/a 7 Feb 51, PW heard that the CCF units have arrived at a place 28 km north of CHIKTONG.
27 Jan 51, the V Corps Hq was located in the mountains in the KAREGOL (CS6571) area.

c. T/O & E and Strength:
V Corps: 3 Divisions (7th, 6th and 12th).
7th Division: 3 Rifle Regt (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), 1 Recon Co, 1 Engineer Co, 1 Signal Bn, and 1 Rear Service Unit.
3rd Regiment: 3 Rifle Bn (1st, 2nd and 3rd), 1 Medical Plat, 1 x Signal Plat and 1 Security Plat.
1st Battalion: 3 Rifle Co (1st, 2nd and 3rd), 1 HMG Co, 1 x 82mm Mortar Co, 1 x 45mm Gun Plat, 1 x Signal Plat. 1 x Medical Unit, and 1 x Rear Service Unit.

Higher Echelon was unknown.
Personnel losses were caused by desertions.

d. Supplies:
After crossing the 38th Parallel, feeding of the troops was made the responsibility of each company commander; supplies from the rear never were transported to the units due to UN air strikes. Troops usually obtained food by foraging.

e. Signal:
Telephones were used for communication at bn and higher echelons. Lower units used runners.

f. Morale:
Morale of the 7th Div, 1st Regt troops was low because the troops believed that battles cannot be won with inferior weapons of the NKA.

g. Medical:
Approx 100 troops of the 7th Div were hospitalized with typhus (type unknown). Approx 10 men were hospitalized with frozen feet. Due to the shortage of medicine, treatment was not given to those hospitalized.

h. Psychological Warfare:
PW was captured and had not seen any UN leaflets.
