3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Dec 48: Inducted into the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (CCF) and assigned to the Independent 4th Regt as a gunner at CHANGCHUN (長春), MANCHURIA
5 Jan 49: Regt was transferred to the 155th Div, 43rd Army, at HEISHAN (黑山). Assigned to the 3rd Plat, 9th Co, 3rd Bn, 16th Regt as a gunner.
6 Jan 49: 155th Div departed HEISHAN on foot for CHUCHIANG(九江), CHINA.
15 Feb 49: 155th Div departed CHUCHIANG for NANCHANG (南昌), CHINA.
30 May 49: 156th Regt engaged the Chinese Nationalist Forces at TUAN FENG (団風).
15 Jul 49: 16th Regt departed NANCHANG for POYANG Lake (翶陽湖), stayed for about three months.
5 Nov 49: Two Korean battalions of 16th Regt departed POYANG Lake for CHENGCHOU (鄭州), and stayed there for three months.
Feb 50: 15th Div was newly organized (10,000) with Koreans from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, at CHENGCHOU (鄭州) and PW was assigned to the 2nd Bn, 1st Regt as a gunner.
10 Mar 50: 15th Div departed CHENGCHOU for WONSAN (元山), KOREA by train via ANTUNG (安東), SINUIJU (新義州) and SOP’O (西浦). Arrived 20 Apr 50.
25 Apr 50: 15th Div designated NKA 7th Div.
10 Jun 50: 7th Div departed WONSAN toward the 38th Parallel.
25 Jun 50: Crossed the 38th Parallel N of HONGCH’ON (洪川).
20 Jul 50: Wounded at the TANYANG (丹陽) battle and evacuated to the SEOUL Field Hospital.
Sept 50: On leaving the hospital, assigned to 39th Brigade, newly organized with volunteers of CH’UNGCH’ONG PUKTO (忠淸北道) as platoon leader at TAEJON (大田).
Oct 50: 39th Brigade began to retreat.
15 Nov 50: 39th Brigade regrouped at CH’ONBANG-NI (前方里) KANGWONDO, 1,000 strong, composed of three battalions. PW was assigned to the 2nd Plat, 5th Co, 2nd Bn as platoon leader.
20 Dec 50: 39th Brigade was transferred to the 10th Div at CHUNCH’ON (春川). 10th Div strength approx 5,000 men, composed of four regiments. PW was assigned to the 2nd Plat, 3rd Co, 1st Bn, 25th Regt as platoon leader.
5 Jan 51: 25th Regt engaged the ROK in the vicinity of HOENGSONG (橫城), KANGWONDO and captured approx 20 ROK PW.
24 Jan 51: 25th Regt engaged US troops at TOP’YONG-MYON (道坪面) KYONGSANG PUKTO, approx 40 km southeast of ANDONG (安東).
25 Jan 51: Captured by the ROK Army.

c. Unit History:
10th Division
PW heard that the 10th Div was reorganized in the vicinity of CH’ONBANG-NI (前方里) KANGWONDO, after suffering heavy losses in the retreat. 20 Dec 50, 39th Brigade was integrated into the 10th Div. It consisted of 25h; 27th, 29th and Art Regt plus other attached units (Engineer Bn, Medical Bn, Rear Section). Strength was approx 4,000 as of 25 Jan 51.

e. Disposition:
24 Jan 51, the 1st Bn engaged US troops at TOP’YONG -DONG (道坪洞) on the way to INJI-DONG (印支洞), where other US troops were stationed. 2nd and 3rd Battalions were to surround them taking other roads. The disposition of other regiments and divisions was unknown.

f. Intentions:
25th Regt was to attack INJI-DONG perimeter, two or three days after 24 Jan 51.

g. Morale:
Low because the 10th Div was organized with recruits with little or no training.

h. Replacements:
3rd Company received 10 replacements of 26 Dec 50, north of HONGCH’ON (洪川).

i. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
Light wounds were treated at Bn aid stations, usually located approx 1 km behind the lines, while the seriously wounded were evacuated on stretchers to Div aid stations through Regt aid stations.

j. Supply:
Each man carried three days ration and 100 rounds ammunition for small arms. Arty shells were carried by Arty members; no vehicles were observed in the 10th Div.

k. Weapons Feared Most:
(1) Strafing
(2) Artillery fire
(3) HMG fire
