a. Chronology:
30 Dec 50 341st Regt crossed 38th Parallel. Arrived YANGPYONG CS 668495 o/a 10 Feb 51 then proceeded SW to Hill 303 CS 642458. At this location 341st Regt engaged UN forces for 1 day then withdrew to mountain approx 3 km NW of YANGPYONG. 5th Bn received casualties of 200 KIA and WIA at Hill 303 during engagement. After bivouacking for 4 days at unk mountain 341st Regt crossed river and proceeded to Hill 473 CS 574409. On night of 14 Feb 51 arrived on Hill 473. O/a 150400 Feb 51 PW deserted and proceeded S.

e. Disposition of Unit:
7th Co approx 500 km SW of 9th Co.
8th Co approx 500 km NW of 9th Co.
HMG Co approx 300 km SW of 9th Co.
PW believes that 340th and 342nd Regt are in vic of YANGPYONG.
f. Replacements:
O/a 25 Jan 50 each Co sent one or two men to get replacements. Location or number unk. Replacements had not arrived as yet.
g. Morale:
Morale low due to lack of food, cold, constant bombardment, long night marches.
h. UN PW:
Observed 4 US PW vic of 38th parallel.
i. Disease:
Two to three men from 9th Co suffered from Malaria. Majority of men are suffering from frostbitten feet.
j. Surrender Leaflet and Broadcast:
Heard no loudspeaker broadcast. PW picked up surrender leaflet and voluntarily surrendered because he believed it. Majority of men want to surrender but do not have the opportunity because officers and NCO kept a sharp lookout for men who try to desert.
k. Arty Information:
O/a 10 Feb 51 5th Bn suffered approx 200 KIA due to arty bombardment. Troops fear White Phosphorous more than HE.
