FIELD REPORT (521 - LDI - 0401) 7 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed cooperative, but lacked in detailed information. Promoted on 27 Jan 51. Reliability - Fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Jul 50 - Conscripted at PYONGYANG and assigned to PYONGYANG Security Force.
Oct 50 - Reassigned to II Corps and YANGGU (DT 1218)
15 Dec 50 - II Corps (2nd, 9th, 10th, 33rd Div) and an Ind Regt departed YANGGU.
22 Jan 51 - Ind Regt arrived YONGWOL (DS 5515).
23 Jan 51 - Arrived at ANHUNG (40 km N or YONGWOL) and observed 9th Div.
24 Jan 51 - Ind Regt, 9th Div arrived at TUNNE (20km NE of ANHUNG).
3 Feb 51 - Unit retreated to ANHUNG, Ind Regt integrated into 9th Div.
5 Feb 51 - Deserted and surrendered at TUNNE.

b. Organization & Strength:
9th Div: 3 Inf Regt, Med Bn, Supply Bn, Com Bn, Ron Plat, Arty Unit
Med Bn: 60 men (25 officers, 20 aid men and 15 bearers)
5 PPSH SMG with 1 drum each, 10 carbines with 50 rd, 10 Russ rifles with 80 rd


c. Medical
200 wounded and sick at TUNNE 3 Feb 51.
Wounded - 100, frostbite - 50, typhus - 50
Med Treatment: Typhus cases were given injections of “SALVARSAN” and given aspirin. These lied items were of US production and were limited in quantity. Typhus contracted in South KOREA and 5 of the patients died.

d. Supply:
Last supply of ammo was issued at YANGGU - Dec 50. 5 days rations of rice were carried by each soldier.

e. Identification:
Only some of the aid men wore red cross brassards.
