PW appeared to be very cooperative. Information considered reliable.
a. Chronology:
16 Dec 50 - Conscripted at WONSAN and attached to a newly organized Replacement Regt (strength about 200 men). Received 4 days of basic training.
20 Dec 50 - PW and approx 60 men of 3rd Co, Replacement Regt departed WONSAN on foot. Travelled mostly at night, in Plat formation. Troops were issued no arms or clothing at WONSAN. Only sqd ldr, plat ldr and the co CO carried weapons.
25 Jan 51 - erd Co arrived at KAPCH’ON via ANBYON, SINKO SAN, PYONGGAN, KIM-HA, HACHONG, YANGGU, INJAE, HONGCH’ON. While enroute about 20 men were killed or wounded by air attack. At KAPCH’ON the 3rd Co received 4 days of combat training, including various combat formation, patrolling, care of weapons and firing methods.
Completing the course the 3rd Replacement Co was deactivated and its personnel were assigned to various units of the 9th Inf Div. PW and two others were assigned to the Arty Btry, 1st Bn, 2nd Regt and received Arty training (for 4 days), disassembly, assembly of pieces and firing. On assignment PW and the two others were issued Russ carbines with 70 rd each. Hereafter PW was utilized as a Wpn bearer (carried disassembled Arty pieces on back).
1 Feb 51 - 1st Bn, 2nd Regt departed KAPCH’ON. Destination unknown. While enroute the 1st Bn changed their course several times to avoid enemy contact.
4 Feb 51 - PW deserted in the vicinity of ANHUNG MYON (Due to lack of food and heavy duties).
5 Feb 51 - Captured.
