Cooperative and talked freely.
PW always following the unit because of illness, therefore he could not furnish detailed information as to the activities and location of the PW Unit.
Other than that, this information seemed reliable.
PW was not wounded but appeared to be very tired and nervous.
PW inducted 20 Feb 47 into the Independent (NK) Police Constabulary unit which consisted of approx 9,000 men.
PW received approx 1 yr of infantry training at CHINNAMP’O (YC1090).
After this training, the Independent Police Constabulary Unit was divided into 3 Rifle Regiments. Each regiment consisted of approx 3,000 men. About 2 of each regiment had small arms. There were no heavy weapons in the regiment.
20 Feb 48, PW assigned to the 3rd Regt, 3rd Bn, 2nd Co, 4th Plat, 4th Sqd as a squad leader.
3rd Regt travelled to KUMSAN-MYON (YC4916) from CHINNAMP’O and remained there for an unknown period as a guard unit along the 38th Parallel.
3rd Regt moved to SONGCHON-NI (CT5555), remaining here for approx 6 months on the same mission previously mentioned.
While guarding the 38th Parallel, PW was assigned to the 3rd Regt, 3rd Bn HMG Co, 2nd Plat and became platoon leader on 20 Jul 49. PW stated that there were not heavy machine guns in the HMG Co.
21 Jul 49, 3rd Regt moved to HWASAN-MYON (BT5512) and remained here for approx one month.
21 Jul 49, PW reassigned to the 3rd Regt, 3rd Bn, 3rd Co. The 3rd Co moved to CHUAM-DONG (9514) until Korean war started 26 Jun 50.
The entire 3rd Regt advanced southward.
While travelling to YOSU (DP0845) from CHUAM DONG, the following places were passed:

While travelling south, PW unit, the 3rd Regt, was redesignated as the 7th Div, 2nd Regt, 1st Bn, 3rd Co, 4th Plat.
Upon arriving at YOSU in Aug 50, the entire 3rd Regt was used as a guard unit along the coast line of YOSU for approx 20 days.
PW stated that the 1st and 2nd Regt of the 7th Div, were located in KWANGJU (CP1091) during the above period.
From YOSU, the entire 7th Div (1st, 2nd & 3rd Regt) advanced eastward, passing CHINJU (DP1695) and arrived at UIRYONG (DQ3306) in Sep 50.
The 7th Div engaged UN troops at MASAN (DP6093), UIRYONG and along the NAM River for approx 15 days.
During the battle, the 7th Div lost about 2/3 of it’s troops and was disorganized.
After the 2nd Regt disintegrated, PW and three others from the 4th Plat retreated northward, passing SOBAEK-SAN (小 白 山), TAEBACK-SAN(太 白 山), other unknown places and arrived at SONGCHO’ON (BU6048), 13 Nov 50.
7th Div was reorganized in SONGCHO’ON, PW with 500 others from the 2nd Regt, were regrouped there.
PW did not know how many troops were in the 1st and 2nd Regt.
17 Dec 50, the entire 7th Div (1st, 2nd & 3rd Regt) departed from SONGCH’ON and advanced south.
While travelling with the 2nd Regt of the 7th Div, to HOENGSONG (DS1149) from SONGCHO’ON, the following places were passed:

After the 2nd Regt arrived at a village approx 4 Km N of HOENGSONG, 6 Jan 51, PW was left behind here because of illness.
While PW was hospitalized in this village, he was captured by UN troops 7 Feb 51.
No further information concerning the 2nd Regt, as of 6 Jan 51.

7th Div: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Rifle Regt, Training Bn, Engr Bn, Med Co, Sig Bn, & Recon Co.
2nd Regt: 3 Rifle Bn, Sig Co, SMG Co, Med Plat, Engr Plat, and Rear Unit (Supply).
1st Bn: 3 Rifle Co, Sig Plat, Supply Plat, and Med Plat.
2nd Co: 3 Rifle Plat.
Each Rifle Platoon was composed of 3 rifle sqd. Rifle Sqd consisted of approx 8 men.

In Jan 51, PW heard from a medical officer who told him that the 2nd Regt was believed to be increased to approx 2,000 troops; however, he did not know the reason.

PW believed that the 2nd Regt received replacements because it increased to 2,000 men after the PW 1st Bn had only 150 men left as of 6 Jan 51. No detailed information concerning the replacements.
Food was confiscated from deserted villages and farmers.
Each men carried a four days food supply while travelling.
No additional ammo was received from the rear since 17 Dec 50.
Field telephones were used above the Bn levels.
The morale of the PW unit was low because of the lack of weapons, ammo and mechanized units.
Troops greatly feared UN air attacks.
There were eight typhus fever cases in the 1st Regt of the 7th Div, as of 6 Jan 51.
PW received two injections of Vitamin B (Thiamin). Injections were given fifteen days apart.
No frost bitten and frozen feet cases were reported in the PW unit.
PW did not surrender voluntarily, but was captured while resting in a farmer’s home because of illness.
He had never seen UN leaflets or heard any broadcasts.
