2. ASSESSMENT:
Intelligent, cooperative. Reliability - Good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
10 Oct 48: Inducted into the 2nd Div, training Bn as a private at HUNGNAM (興南). Trained for 3 months.
Feb 49: Transferred to the 2nd Div, 1st Regt, 1st Bn, 3rd Co, Supply Sqd, which was stationed at HUNGNAM. Received basic training for more than a year.
Nov 49: Promoted to Sqd leader (Jr Sgt).
May 50: Moved to CH’ORWON (鉄原) with his unit.
24 Jun 50: Arrived at a mountain near the 38th parallel, and the next day, the 2nd Div crossed the 38th parallel.
28 Jun 50: PW dropped behind his unit because of sickness. In civilian hospital for half a month.
12 Sep 50: Arrived TAEJON (大田) on foot, looking for his unit. NKA started to retreat and PW retreated northward on foot.
Early Dec 50: Arrived KOKSAN (谷山). About 200 men who dropped behind their units were assembled and stayed here for a week. Started south on foot.
15 Jan 51: Arrived YUDONG (柳㳉). At the time, II Corps Hq was located here. PW was ordered to join the 9th Div.
25 Jan 51: Arrived TUNAE-MYON (斗內面) and joined the 9th Div.
4 Feb 51: 9th Div, 3rd Regt was attacked by the ROK Army and the USAF and PW was captured by the ROK troops in the vicinity of ANHUNG-MYON (安興面).

b. Unit Organization and Strength:
II Corps consisted of the 2nd, 9th, 10th, 27th and 31st Divisions.

82mm Mortars - 2 in 1st Regt, 1 in 2nd Regt and none in 3rd Regt.

7.62mm LMG - 7 or 8 in 3rd Regt.
7.62mm SMG - About 8 in each company.

d. Personalities:
CH’OE, Hyon (崔鉉)(최현), Lt Gen (  ) II Corps CG, about 46, small fat man. He was formerly with the 8th Route Army in MANCHURIA. Former CG, 2nd Div.
KANG, T’ae Mu (강태우), Col (大領), CO 3rd Regt, 9th Div, about 30, tall, he was born in KYONGSANG-DO (慶尙道), KOREA.

When last observed (4 Feb 51), 9th Div CP was in KANGWONDO, TUNAE-MYON (江原道斗內面). 3rd Regt was in the vicinity of ANHUNG-MYON (安興面), 14 km S of TUNAE (斗內).

h. Intentions:
9th Div was to assemble its scattered regiments and retreat north, 4 Feb 51.

i. Morale:
Low - Because of frequent air attacks, Arty fire and lack of rations and clothing.

j. Supply:
Each man carried only one days rations and 30 rounds of ammunitions for rifles. No Arty or Mortar shells.
