Source was cooperative, however, at times gave conflicting answers. Reliability fair.
Source separated from the 8th ROK Div at YONGWON (BB 9012) when the unit was surrounded by CCF 24 Dec 50. 20 Jan 51, the 7th NK Div captured subject and 9 other ROK troops while they were enroute south.
They were stripped of their uniforms, given civilian clothes, and interrogated by an officer for approx. 20 minutes. This officer struck them several times with a stick during the interrogation.
28 Jan 51, PW were issued cotton quilted, NK winter uniforms. During internment they were not subjected to political indoctrination but did minor details such as hauling water and carrying food.
Five of the PW were assigned to the NK 7th Div, 2nd Regt, Transp Co on 26 Jan 51. When the unit began to advance south they carried 2 x 82mm mortar shells each. 19 NK troops also carried mortar shells.
Since 4 of the ROK troops were wounded when captured, they were turned over to the Local Security Units for internment.
24 Jan 51 - Dep SONGCHON, NK, with 1,500 men.
30 Jan 51 - Passed thru HONGCHON, SK, and joined another unk Regt of approx. 1,700 troops.
30 Feb 51 - Changed course in vicinity of school (DS 17.5-45.8) and arrived at small village (DS 17.7-49.3) where troops dispersed to hills north of main road.

Very low; troops lacked combat experience.
Some of the troops of the 7th NK Div were afflicted with an unknown illness, which however, did not effect their combat efficiency to any great extent. Symptoms of this illness were, headache, fever, and expectoration of blood.
072000 Feb 51 at DS 177493, source was ordered to replace a sentry and was given a Russian carbine with 30 to 40 rd of ammo. At this moment source escaped, intended reporting to UN Forces. 072310 Feb 51, source was apprehended by 4.2 Mortar Plat, 2/187th Abn RCT at DS 175458.
