2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition. PW was a farmer prior to entering military service with the CAN. PW was cooperative and of above average intelligence. Information is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment:
50th Army composed of the 148th, 149th and the 150th Div and an Arty Bn. 149th Div composed of 445th, 446th, 447th Regt and a Guard Bn 447th Regt composed of 3 Rifle Bn, Recon & Comm Co, Guard Co and a Mortar Co. The Recon & Comm Co was composed of the 1st Comm Plat, 2nd Recon Plat and the 3rd Telephone Plat. The 3rd Telephone Plat was composed of 3 comm Sqd and a Utilities Group.
PW had knowledge of the following code numbers:

Recon & Comm Co - 7th Group

The Arty Bn(atchd to Army) had 6 x 76mm M1902/30 Guns. PW observed these pieces in vic of SEOUL 13 Jan 51. Mortar Co (atchd to Regt) had 6 x 82mm M1937 mortars. HMG Co (atchd to each Bn) had 6 MAXIM HMG M1910. Each Rifle Co had 2 x 60mm mortars. Each rifleman armed with a Chinese rifle (type 97).

b. Unit Assignment and Intentions:
447th Regt was to defend area vic UNJUNG-NI (CS284393).

c. Disposition:
2nd Bn, 447th Regt withdrew on 4 Feb 51 to UNJUNG-NI (CS284393). The 447th Regt CP also withdrew to vic of SEOUL on the same day (exact location unk). The 448th Regt was observed heading approx 24 km SW of SEOUL on 30 Jan 51. 29 Jan 51 at SEOUL, he heard from an officer of the 38th Army that 38th Army was located west of SEOUL. PW heard from his Co CO 24 Jan 51 that 50th Army Hq was at SEOUL.

e. Morale:
Morale in PW unit was low due to the following reasons:
(1) Over exhaustion
(2) Lack of food
(3) Insufficient clothing
(4) Fear of air strikes

f. Chronology:
PW volunteered into the CNA at YUNNAN (雲南) 17 Aug 43 and served for approx 6 yr. 17 Oct 49, PQ was captured by the CCF, 59th Army at CHANGCHUN (長春). Immediately after capture PW was sent to the CCF Military and Government Training School at CHICHIHAR (齊齊哈爾) for approx one year. Upon graduating, Pw was commissioned a 2nd Lt and was assigned to his present unit. PW unit crossed the YALU River at ANTUNG in Nov 50. 28 Dec 50, the 50 h Army arrived at the CHONGCHON River. It passed through P’YONGYANG 3 Jan 51 and arrived at SEOUL 14 Jan 51. The 149th Div crossed the HAN River at a point approx 2 km S of SEOUL on foot over the ice. No bridging equipment was observed. After crossing the HAN River, 149th Div marched south, following the MSR and arrived at SUWON 17 Jan 51. Div remained at SUWON for 2 days then departed for UNJUNG-NI (CS284393). Div dug defensive positions there and remained for 13 days. PW was ordered to lay telephone wire between Regt Hq and 2nd Bn Hq at CHANGSA-NI (CS281362). On the night of 4 Feb 51 when the 2nd Bn withdrew to UNJUNG-NI, PW and another man were left behind to salvage the telephone wire. While salvaging the wire, they were captured by the 3rd Bn, 3rd Div 5 Feb 51.

g. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was insufficient and the troops were fed twice a day. Food was procured from farmers. No Ammo received since crossing the border. At present each rifleman has 60 rd and each 60mm Mortar has 30 rd.

h. Replacements:
No replacements were received by PW unit.

i. Psychological Warfare:
PW picked up a UN surrender leaflet 10 Dec 50 and upon reading it, he intended to surrender but due to his position, he did not have the opportunity to desert.

j. Foreign, Technicians:
There was one interpreter (Korean) to each Co.

k. Medical:
There were 6 malaria cases in his plat. PW did not receive any immunization and he had no knowledge of any typhus affecting his unit.

l. Effectiveness of Night Bombing:
PW unit was never subjected to night bombing.
