2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. PW was a farmer prior to entering military service with the CNA. PW deserted 28 Jan 51 and surrendered to the UN Forces. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment:
50th Army composed of the 148th, 149th and 150th Div and Guard Bn.
148th Div composed of the 442nd, 443rd, and 444th Regt, Guard Co, Arty Btry, and Sig Co.
149th Div composed of the 445th, 446th, and 447th Regt, Guard Co, Arty Btry, and Sig Co.
150th Div composed of the 448th, 449th, and 450th Regt, Guard Co, Arty Btry, and Sig Co.
Each Regt of the above Div composed of 3 Inf Bn and HMG Co.
Each Bn composed of 3 Rifle Co and HMG Co.
Each Co composed of 3 Rifle Plat and 60mm Mort Sqd.
Each Plat composed of 2 Rifle Sqd and LMG Sqd.
PW stated that the 48th, 49th and 50th Armies composed the 10th Army Group which was under the 4th Field Army.

Each Rifle Plat was equipped with 2 LMG, 2 bangalore type charges, 4 rifles (type 79, Chinese), 3 A/W (30 rd). Each man carried 4 hand grenades and 60 rd of ammo. Each Co was equipped with 3 HMG and 2x60mm mortars.
The HMG Co (attached to Bn) was equipped with 3 HMG, and 2x60mm mortars.
Regt was equipped with 2x82mm and 2x60mm mortars.
Div was equipped with 2x82mm and 2x60mm mortars.

b. Mission:
PW heard from Regt CO 19 Jan 51 that the Regt objective was SUWON. The 442nd Regt was to reinforce the 443rd Regt and the 444th Regt was to reinforce the 442nd Regt.
The overall mission was to reach PUSAN, details unk.

c. Disposition:
As of 25 Jan 51, the 443rd Regt CP was located in a village (22 houses) approx 5 miles north of SUWON and 50 meters west of the MSR. It was occupied at night. During the day, the men hid in a mountain located 1 mile north of the village and 1 mile west of the MSR.
As of 25 Jan 51, elements of the 442nd Regt was located in a mountain approx 6 miles north of SUWON and 3 miles west of the MSR, details unk.
As of 25 Jan 51, elements of the 444th Regt was located in a mountain approx 7 miles north of SUWON and 2 miles east of the MSR.

d. Communication:
Communication between Co and Bn was conducted by runners. From Bn to Regt by telephone and runners. Radios or telegraphs were believed to be in use from Div and up.
Trucks and horsecarts were used to transport food, clothing and ammo.

e. Personalities:

f. Morale:
Approx 70% of the 50th Army troops were former CNA troops and their morale was low because they did not know why they are fighting the Americans, who had given aid to them when they were with the CNA.

g. Chronology:
PW was a former CNA soldier for 7 yr. Captured by the CCF in Nov 49 at SZECHWAN(四川). 50th Army crossed the YALU River at ANTUNG 15 Dec 50. Walked through P’YONGYANG to SEOUL 6 Jan 51, travelling on the MSR at night. PW unit arrived at unk point approx 13 miles north of SUWON 19 Jan 51 and stayed there for approx one week. PW deserted his unit and surrendered to UN forces approx one mile north of SUWON 28 Jan 51.

h. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food and ammo were insufficient. Food was procured locally. No additional ammo was received since entering KOREA. PW heard from a laborer, o/a 19 Jan 51, that food, ammo and clothing were brought from ANTUNG by trucks and stored in dugouts north of the HAN River.

i. Replacements:
No replacements were received. Wounded personnel were sent to the rear for medical attention and upon recovery returned to their original units. Stragglers who made their way to adjacent units were returned to their original units.

j. Psychological Warfare:
PW surrendered voluntarily. UN leaflets were interpreted to PW by a fellow soldier. The leaflets said to surrender and receive good treatment. Refuse and Die! PW reaction was favorable. Other soldiers were observed picking up leaflets but they never discussed the contents.

k. Prisoners of War:
Three US PW were observed in SINUIJU on trucks. PW heard from Bn CO that they were to be taken to ANTUNG.

l. Mine Fields:
In case CCF troops have to retreat mines would be laid on roads and mountain trails where people are likely to travel.

m. Medical:
No immunization was received. Stomach ailments were most prevalent in PW unit due to irregular meals and cold weather. PW had no knowledge regarding the use of narcotics or drugs by CCF troops.

n. Where and When PW Crossed the HAN River:
PW crossed the HAN River on foot over the ice 14 Jan 51 on the west side of the SEOUL RR bridge.

o. Effectiveness of Night Bombing:
19 Jan 51 PW saw 30 casualties from an UN night bombing attack, however, he stated that daylight bombing was more effective.

4. REMARKS:
PW was previously interrogated by the 25th Div IPW Team.
