FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0104) 3 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: WON Chol Chu (23) Jr Lt
RANK: Plat Ldr
UNIT: 10th Div, 29th Regt, 2nd Bn, 4th Co, 3rd Plat
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 2 Feb 51 at DS0129 (Between HASUNSANNI and SANGSUNGANNI)
INTERROGATOR: PFC AKASHI

2. ASSESSMENT:
Although PW was a Jr Lt and a Plat Ldr, he was not able to give much up to date information of his unit, because he was left behind after he was wounded. He was very cooperative and what information obtained seems fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Enroute to ANDONG the 10th Div with an estimated 5,000 men were engaged by an UN force, 12 km E of YONGJI-DONG (DS 3536) o/a 19 Jan 51 and pushed back in defeat.
Changing their plan to break the UN line they decided to move around the enemy's right flank along the east coast and then into ANDONG.
PW heard o/a 1 Jan 51 from Co CO that the over all plan for the V Corps was for the 6th Div to attack TAEJON, the 3rd Div to MASON, 10th Div to ANDONG, the 12th Div in the middle with the 1st Div on the east coast.
At YANGJIDONG o/a 19 Jan 51 PW was wounded and left behind by his unit. He managed to reach an aid station in YANJIDONG and received medical treatment. For 6 days he stayed with the medical det consisting of 6 nurses and 11 aid men.
On 25 Jan 51 YANJIDONG was attacked by ROK Troops and PW was evacuated to SUSAN MYON where he stayed for 2 days until they were forced to move out because of enemy fire.
From the 25 Jan 51 until the date of his capture, PW wandered in the hills dressing his wound and trying to locate NKA troops. During this period PW did not see or hear of any NKA troop concentrations or movements.

b. Weapons (29th Regt):
5 x 82mm mort (160 rd), 5 x 60mm mort (180 rd), 9 HMG (500 rd per), 15 LMG (300 rd per). All armed with rifles or carbines (80 rd).

c. Clothing: One third with cotton padded winter uniforms.
One third with civilian clothes.
One third with summer uniforms and overcoats.

d. Morale:
Low, because of the severe cold and continuous UN air attacks.
