2. ASSESSMENT:
PW escaped from his unit on 26 Jan 51; surrendered to ROK National Police at CHISO-DONG 27 Jan 51.
Not recommended for further interrogation. PW cooperative, but information is limited.
Evaluation: F-6

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Organization:
25th Regt consisted of 3 Inf Bn with Arty Btry.
Tran Co, Sig Co, and Med Co to ea Bn.
27th and 29th Regt were within sight of CHISO-DONG
26 Jan 51.
10th Div Hq located at KOWA-DONG. (2km Northwest of CHISO-DONG) 23 Jan 51.

b. Strength of Unit:
(1) Original Strength: (26 Dec 50)
25th Regt approx 2000 men.
PW Bn: approx 600 men.
(2) Present Strength: (26 Jan 51)
PW Bn approx 300.
25th Regt approx 1000
There were more casualties from frost bite than from Arty.

c. Chronology:
26 Dec 50 - 10th Div left HWACHON.
30 Dec 50 - Arrived HONGCHON.
3 Jan 51 - Arrived HOENGSONG.
7 Jan 51 - Arrived CHECHONG.
14 Jan 51 - Arrived YONGJU.
18 Jan 51 - Arrived CHIRYE-DONG (TA 9539).
23 Jan 51 - Arrived CHISO-DONG.
Unit rested 3 days, PW escaped morning of 26 Jan 51.

f. Weapons and Equipment:
40 PPsh SMG per Bn
6 HMG, 7 - LMG ea Bn
5X75mm Mortars in Arty Bn
Co CO were armed with pistols, sq ldr M-1 rifles.
Other small firearms, carbines and Russian rifles.

g. Status of Supply; Route of Supply:
Ammo: 2-3 boxes (approx 500 rd) ea MG.
Rifleman carried from 100-150 rd.
Medical: Had med men in Co; however, scarce in medicine.
Clothing: No reisuue since entering army.
Shelter: Took shelter in mountains most of the time.

h. Morale:
High among officers; EM - fair.

i. Weapons most feared:
Air bombing and arty fire feared the most.
PW claims weapon, fairly accurate.

j. Tactics:
Fought only when victory was certain. Scouts observed UN strength and movements before attack. Div usually fought one main body, attacking early morning about 0430 - 0530. Combat formations of Regt varied. Full strength (3 Bn) and Arty employed, when enemy strength great.
29th Regt highly trained and experienced with 4 major battles to their credit. 25th Regt consisted mostly of inexperienced conscripts.
