2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition. He was cooperative and of average intelligence. Information is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment:
I NK Corps was composed of the 8th, 46th, 47th Inf Div, 17th Tank Div, Arty (Div or Corps?) and Rear Hq.
8th, 46th and 47th Div were each composed of 3 Inf Regt (1st, 2nd & 3rd for each Div), Arty Regt, Engr Bn, Med Bn, Rear Hq, Sig Bn and Guard Plat.
Each Inf Regt was composed of 3 Bn, Rear Hq, Arty Regt (IN: PW insisted that it is an Arty Regt), Engr Co, Sig Co, Med Co, Guard Plat, and SMG Co.
Each Inf Bn was composed of 3 Rifle Co (numbered consecutively beginning with the 1st Bn), Supply Plat, Med Plat, AT Plat, Sig Plat, HMG Co, and a Mort Co.
Each Rifle Co composed of 3 rifle plat and HMG Plat.
Each Plat composed of 3 sqd.

His Regt received two daylight air attacks and one night air attack at INCH'ON but suffered no casualties.
I NK Corps (Code Name: 393rd Army Unit)
47th Div (Code Name: 32nd Army Unit)
The 47th Div was organized at SINUIJU 1 Oct 50. At that time SINUIJU was a training center.
Each rifle plat had 3 SMG, three LMG, 2 hand grenades per man and approx 100 rd per man. HMG Plat had 2 HMG. AT Plat (atchd to Bn) had 3-5 AT rifles (size u/k). Mort Co (atchd to Bn) had 5-7 x 82mm mort. Supply plat (atchd to Bn) had an unk number of oxcarts. There were no trucks in the supply plat. Sig Plat (atchd to Bn) had no equipment except for telephones taken from villages. Med Plat (atchd to Bn) had 1 or 2 stretchers, tweezers, scalpels. Medicine consisted of mercurochrome and iodine. Other medicine obtained from villages and cities. The Arty Regt (?) (atchd to each Inf Regt) had shovels and picks (no bridging equipment). SMG Co (atchd to Regt) had 60 SMG. Guard Plat (atchd to Regt) had 4-5 SMG and unk number of rifles. Rear Regt Hq supplied the Inf Regt. Signal Co (atchd to Regt) had 2-3 telephones and unk number of wireless sets.

b. Unit Missions and Intention:
Mid-Jan 51, the mission of the 47th Div was to defend the INCH'ON area. INCH'ON City was occupied by the 5th Co, 2nd Bn, 3rd Regt, 47th Div. As of 2 Feb 51, there were no CCF troops in INCH'ON. O/a 20 Jan 51, PW heard from the Regt Exec Off that if the UN forces should land at INCH'ON, the company occupying INCH'ON would withdraw 10-15 km E of the city where the 47th Div will make a stand deploying the 3rd Regt to the south, 2nd Regt to the north, and the 1st Regt in the center, forming a U-shaped line.

c. Disposition:
O/a 20 Jan 51, the Regt Exec Off told PW that he was going to the I NK Corps Hq in SEOUL. As of 1 Feb 51, the 47th Div Hq was in the village of MANUI-RI (CS 030477). As of 29 Jan 51, the 1st Bn Hq of the 3rd Regt, 47th Div was in the village W of MUNHANG-NI (BS953450). As of 29 Jan 51, the 2nd Bn CP of the 3rd Regt was in HAGING-NI (BS941454). As of 29 Jan 51, the 3rd Bn CP of the 3rd Regt was in KWANGYO-RI (BS952453). As of 1 Feb 51, the 3rd Regt CP was in SUNGGI-RI (BS959458). As of 2 Feb 51, the 2nd Bn CP (2nd Regt) was in SOSA-RI (CS052495). As of 2 Feb 51, the 1st Bn CP (2nd Regt) was located approx 3 km NEE of the 2nd Bn Cp (2nd Regt). As of 2 Feb 51, the 2nd Regt CP was located approx 800 meters E of the 2nd Bn CP, 2nd Regt. O/a 21 Jan 51, PW heard from Regt communications officer that the 1st Regt CP and the 1st Bn (1st Regt) were located in HACHON (BS997468).

d. Communications:
Regt and higher echelons used telephones and wireless. Lower echelons used runners and telephones.

f. Armor:
PW observed two T-34 tanks at PALWON-MYON (YE3517) in mid Dec 50.

g. Artillery:
2 Feb 51, observed 2 or 3 x 122mm mort 1 km W of the 47th Div CP (CS030477).

h. Morale:
Morale in PW unit was low because the majority of the men were conscripted, and had no desire to fight.

i. Chronology:
PW was conscripted into the NKA 16 Aug 50 at SINUIJU and attended the NKA Officer's Candidate School in PYONGYANG, for a period of six weeks. On 1 Oct 50, PW was assigned as Co Comdr of the HMG Co, 2nd Bn, 3rd Regt, 47th Div at SINUIJU. The 47th Div moved to KUSONG (XE9228) on 20 Oct 50 and remained there till 30 Oct 50. PW deserted his unit on 31 Oct 50 and went to SINUIJU, where he was apprehended on 21 Nov 50. PW was confined in the stockade for five days, then he was sent to the 3rd Regt, 47th Div Replacement Co in SINSANG-NI (YE2314) as a Co Comdr and served in this capacity until 17 Dec 50. He was assigned Regt Historian 18 Dec 50. PW Regt arrived in INCH'ON on 11 Jan 51, travelling at night by foot on the MSR via ANJU (YD2888), PYONGYANG, SARIWON (YC4065), KAESONG (BT8604) and SEOUL. The rest of the 47th Div arrived in INCHON 2 days later. PW deserted 2 Feb 51 and surrendered to UN Forces 5 Feb 51.

j. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was procured locally and was sufficient. Ammo was considered adequate because the 47th Div was not committed in battle. Supplies were hauled at night by oxcarts.

k. Replacements:
No replacements were received by PW unit. Wounded personnel were given medical treatment and upon recovery were returned to their original units.

l. Psychological Warfare:
PW surrendered voluntarily because he did not favor Communism. He did not see or hear of UN leaflets and broadcasts. PW was told by his section chief not to read the leaflets.

m. Air Force:
1 Nov 50, PW observed three single engined propeller driven aircraft in SINUIJU. Nationalities of pilots unk.

n. Road Blocks, Mine Fields:
Stated WOLMI Island was ringed with land mines 20-30 meters from the shore. Barbed wire was strung between the mines and the ocean.

o. Foreign Advisors:
PW observed two Russian military advisors at the NKA Officer's Candidate School in P'YONGYANG during his attendance from Aug - Sep 50. The two advisors held the rank of Lt Col and Col (names u/k).

p. Medical:
PW received typhus immunization once at INCH'ON o/a 6 Jan 51. No other immunization shots were received. Typhus was believed to be the most prevalent disease. PW had no knowledge of narcotics or drugs used by troops.

q. Naval Bombardment:
PW stated that they were under naval bombardment continuously while at INCHON, but his Regt did not suffer any casualties, because the shells landed in the mountains and not in their bivouac area. The troops stayed in the villages during the night and hid in the mountains during the day. While in the mountains the men hid in caves or air raid shelters.

r. Effectiveness of Night Bombing:
PW stated that daylight air strikes were more effective than night bombing. Casualties caused by air strikes were low in PW unit because the men stayed away from the villages during the day.

s. HAN River Crossing:
PW unit walked across the frozen HAN River in vic of a RR bridge (exact location u/k) o/a 9 Jan 51. No bridging equipment observed.

4. REMARKS:
PW was previously interrogated by the 25th Div IPW Team. “Incorporating 25th LDI-No. u/k, dtd 5 Feb 51.” Documents found on PW have been processed by the I Corps IPW Team.
