FIELD REPORT (IX CORPS MISD - 0238) 31 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and answered freely during interrogation, however, because he was with this unit for less than 10 days, he did not have any information of tactical value. He is not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
16 Jul 50, PW was inducted into the NKA at CHINNANP'O together with 6,000 men. After receiving about 20 days of training they left and arrived at TAEJON o/a 10 Sep 50, as replacements of the 3rd Div. However, upon arrival at TAEJON they heard that the NKA was in retreat to NORTH KOREA so they dispersed. PW went to his home in SOUTH KOREA where he remained until 21 Jan 51, at which time he was caught by guerrillas and used as a laborer.
On 29 Jan 51, his guerrilla unit was surrounded by a ROK patrol at OKHWA-RI (CR833527) at which time PW dispersed. On 30 Jan 51, PW was captured by ROK civilian police at PAEKKONG-MYON.

b. Organization and Strength (Present)
The guerrilla unit, to which he belonged was a Bn because the men addressed their commander as Bn Commander. In all there were 40 men, however, PW did not know the breakdown of the unit.

c. Deployment of Own Unit
PW stated that this guerrilla unit was constantly on the run, remaining no longer than a day at a spot, because of the numerous ROK patrols. When they were surrounded by the ROK patrol the guerrillas headed in a northerly direction but did not know where they went.
PW did not know where they were before being engaged by ROK patrol at OKHWA-RI because they were constantly in the hills. PW heard from a fellow soldier that this unit was hiding in SONGNI-SAN (DR0046), however, he did know how long or when they left.

d. Arms and Ammunition
Every member of the guerrilla unit carried either, Russian rifles, SMG, M-1 Rifle, or carbines. They carried from 30 to 50 rounds of ammunition each. PW saw only 5 or 6 handgrenades, carried only by superior officers.

e. Mission and Intention
PW heard from the Bn CO that this guerrilla unit was going north to join the NKA, however, PW did not know where, when and how they were going to next.

f. Physical Condition of Troops
Every member of the guerrilla unit had minor frost bites.
