PW were cooperative, however, they were not too observant as to what route taken. Information contained herein is fairly reliable.
a. Chronology:
On 15 Nov 50, the entire 1st Guerrilla Brig departed MUPYONG-NI (DS3694) and arrived at ODAE-SAN (DS5983) o/a 14 Dec 50, via mountain trails. It then arrived at YOSANG-NI o/a 29 Jan 51 via TAEBEK and SOBAEK-SAN.
On 30 Jan 51, due to hunger and the severe cold, PW were unable to continue their march with the unit and remained behind at YOSANG-NI where they were captured 3 days later by the ROK Security Unit.
b. Organization and Strength:
15 Nov 50, when the 1st Guerrilla Brig departed HUPYONG, its strength was 1,300 men.
The 1st Guerrilla Brig was composed of ten units (designation unknown) approx 100 men each. In each unit there were three districts totalling 35 men each. The district was composed of three plat, in each plat 12 to 14 men. In each plat there were sqd, 4 to 5 men each.
c. Status of Arms and Ammunition (Present):
1st Guerrilla Brig (1,000 men) had 3 HMG (100 - 200 rd each), 30 LMG (500 rd each) three 60mm mort (no ammo), and rifles (50 rd each).
d. Status of Food and Clothing:
Food supply was looted from villagers of the unit's immediate area. After departing HUPYONG (on 15 Nov 50) PW ate an average of one meal a day.
No supply of weapons, material or ammo was received since the above departure.
e. Mission and Intentions:
The mission of the 1st Guerrilla Brigade was to go to NAMWON (CQ1953) to cut the UN supply line.
In order to reach their destination the unit was to take mountain trails via SONGNI-SAN (CR4499).

g. Medical:
About 70% of the unit was suffering from malnutrition and cold weather. To PW knowledge there was no sickness.
h. Propaganda:
Members of PW unit were told constantly to keep fighting to the last, since, if they were to surrender to be captured they would be maltreated or killed.
