PW deserted and with the help of a civilian, surrendered to ROK National Police. PW often reluctant to speak, information limited. Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Mission:
Mission of the 10th Div was to infiltrate to ANDONG and cut the UN MSR.
b. Original Strength:
10th Div strength at departure from HWACHON, 22 Dec 50, estimated at 3000.
c. Chronology:
PW was conscripted into 10th Div as a propagandist because she was a school teacher. There were 35 in the Political Section of 10th Div, 20 males and 15 females. Most of the females were from 18 to 21. Some had volunteered but PW and the others were conscripted. Females made trips to Regt along with Political Sec Chief where indoctrination speeches were given and songs were led by the females.
10th Div departed HWACHON on 22 Dec 50 and arrived in ANDONG Area on 15 Jan 51. PW remembered 10th Div passing through KUBOK, SAMMAL-RI, HAMAL-RI, HASA-RI and CHUNGSA-RI. Div never stayed at one location long as UN attacks were expected.
Two days before PW was captured, she deliberately stayed behind. She deserted and made her way to SANGSA-RI. There, with the help of a civilian, she surrendered. Present location of 10th Div unk. “KLA” was the password for the Political Section.
d. Political background:
Member of Girls Communist Youth Party. since 47. To be a member of this party was the duty of every girl.
