FIELD REPORT (IX CORPS MISD - 0237) 31 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative during interrogation. Information is fairly reliable although very limited. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW was inducted in Jul 50 and assigned to the 2nd Div, 2nd Regt, 2nd Bn, 1st Co, 2nd Plat, 2nd Sqd on 1 Sep 50 at KURYE (CP6196). Around 15 Sep 50, they started to withdraw up to 12 km point N of the 38th Parallel, place unknown, through Mt trails, arriving there on an unk date. O/a 30 Oct 50, 200 forced "Volunteers" from South KOREA were transferred to the TAEBAEK Guerrilla Unit (300 men) stationed in the TAEBAEK SAN (DS9304). The 500 Guerrillas were divided into five units; the CHONG CHONG KI (Designated the 507 Regt) with a strength of about 100. O/a 30 Oct 50, all the units departed via mt trails and headed south. On 28 Jan 51, they arrived at YONGPUNG-MYON (DR 1270), where he was captured by the 5th Regt, 1st Cav.
They engaged ROK troops twice at an unknown place. Once during mid-December and once in the early part of Jan 51, which delayed their advance.

b. Organization & Strength:
The strength, up to the 30th of Jan, of the CHONG CHONG Ki Unit (507 Regt) was approx 100.
The present strength of the TAEBAEK GUERRILLA Unit was about 500.
TAEBAEK Guerrilla Unit was divided into five Regts. These were known as the 505, 507 (CHONG CHONG KI Unit), KO IN SUK Unit, HUNGPOK Unit and the TAE CHON Unit. Names of the Commanders were used in place of numerals and vice versa. Each Unit (Regt) was composed of two Sector Units. A Sector Unit was composed of two platoons of three squads each.

d. Status of Food & Clothing:
No food or clothing supplies received. Food was confiscated from villages.

e. Mission and Intention:
PW heard that the TAEBAEK Guerrilla Force was to go south with the 2nd Div as advanced units for the CCF, as far as NAKTONG River, but the actual mission and intention was unk.

f. Personalities:
507 Regt Comdr
CHONG Chong Gi, age about 30, rank unk.

g. Physical Condition of Troops:
About 20 troops in his unit (507) were suffering from some unk disease. PW has suffered from this sickness since 10 Jan is still suffering. Symptoms were fever, sore back and constipation. The cause was unk.

h. Propaganda:
They were always told by their Regt commanders that to obey the higher ranks could mean winning the war, and also that they would be killed if they were captured by the enemy. He did not see any leaflets.
