FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0148) 15 January 1951

2. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Subject departed CHIAN-NI CT 7804 on 011900 Jan 51 after receiving orders to withdraw to MOKTONG-NI CS 7394. Enroute to MOKTONG-NI 2nd Bn engaged CCF unit of approx 1 div strength in ten different engagements, exact location unknown. 020800 Jan 51 the 6th Co lost contact with the 2nd Bn wile engaged in mountains just north of MOKTONG-NI. After engagement remaining one platoon of the 6th company crossed to mountains just east of former position and from there departed south passing through KUGONG-NI CS 8085. KUUN-DONG CS 8676 to KYORYONG-DONG CS 8772. The platoon traveled day and night without stopping, using mountain trails. No enemy was observed enroute. Arrived at KYORYONG-DONG at 050200 Jan and ran into approx one regiment strength of CCF troops dugin. After exchange of fire the platoon fled to the outskirt of KYORYONG-DONG and hid there until 052000 Jan then proceeded to MUGOL-LI CS 7773, arriving 060100 Jan 51. No enemy was observed enroute but heard from villagers that unknown number of CCF troops were dugin in vic of MUGOL-LI. The platoon spent night in mountains north of MUGOL-LI. On 071000 Jan 51 encountered one CCF company in town of MUGOL-LI and five men were killed. Remaining eight men fled to the mountains N of MUGOL-LI. During this conflict subject was wounded in right leg by small arms fire. The remaining eight stayed overnight in mountains N of MUGOL-LI, and on 080700 Jan 51 five were captured and three escaped. 080830 subject escaped while being taken to MUGOL-LI and headed west for two km. On 09 Jan 51 traveled S toward TANWOL-MYON CS 7765 on mountain trail and did not encounter enemy. 101000 Jan 51 arrived at TANWOL-MYONG village office and heard from a refugee that one regiment strength of CCF troops located in TANWOL-MYONG, exact location unknown. On 111900 Jan observed approx one company of NK troops at NOLBUNYO-RI CS 7952. Arrived at CHIPYONG-NI CS 7948 and observed approx one company (300 men) both CCF and NK soldiers heading toward KOKSU-RI CS 7842. Stayed overnight at CHIPYONG-NI and departed 120700 Jan 51 to KOKSU-RI and arrived 2 km E of KOKSU-RI 121700 Jan 51. Heard from a refugee that approx one Bn of CCF troops in KOKSU-RI at 121000 Jan 51. On 131200 Jan 51 subject heard from refugee that a CCF company was in KOKSU-RI had departed for YANPYONG CS 6649. Departed vic of KOKSU-RI 140700 Jan 51 arriving YOJU CS 7928 on 141600 Jan 51 where he was picked up by elements of 21st Regt on 141700. Observed approx one CCF squad at PUNGNAE-MYON CS 7835 on 141200 Jan 51. No tanks, vehicles, or heavy weapons observed. All CCF troops encountered armed with small arms and automatics weapons.
