FIELD REPORT (2 - LDI - 0039) 24 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: PW was cooperative in answering questions and information seems to be reliable.
Recommended for further interrogation.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
PW stated that when he was drafted at WONSAN by IX Corps, he heard from an officer that 680 Bn was organized at WONSAN and their main duty was to guard the supplies.
Approx 500 men of 680 Bn were heading to CHASAN (YD5159) but he escaped from them at 40 kms NE of KANGGYE (BA9837) on 27 Oct 50.
PW was heading back to his home in SUNCHON but he voluntarily surrendered to US Force in TOKCH’ON (BV7004) o/a 0700 hrs 23 Nov 50. Above-mentioned Bn had only 3 PPSH SMGs and 1 Russian made carbine per squad.
On 18 Nov 50 PW observed approx 1000 men (300 NK troops and 700 CCF troops) strung out on the main road for 8 kms from a point 2 kms north of SINJAN (BV5322) toward HUICHON (BV6849). They were mostly armed with Jap rifles and were either in the houses or in the trenches which were dug between the mountain and road. PW also observed 10 Soviet made trucks parked by the road, well camouflaged with pine trees at same location as above.
o/a 1200 hrs 20 Nov 50 PW observed approx 300 CCF troops strung out on a mountain trail for 4 kms from a point 2 kms SE of SINJAN toward TOKCH’ON (BV7004) eating the noon meal. These troops were armed with Jap rifles and 2 or 3 hand grenades per man.
