The 10th Regt’s Hq on 9 Sep 50 was located in the mountains 8 Km E of the POHANG airfield.
The 11th and 12th Regt’s were located W of the POHANG airfield (distance unknown).
The Div Hq is believed to be located 20 Kms NW of the airfield.
The Div Arty is believed to be somewhere S of the airfield near the river that flows from KYONGJU to POHANG.
6. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 28 Jul 50, at HAMHUNG with about 1000 others. On the same day, 500 inductees were shipped out and the remaining troops were assigned to the HAMHUNG Training Regt. The HAMHUNG Training Regt trained only for one (1) day (close-order drill). Between 1 Aug to 3 Aug 50 about 1800 newly inducted troops were assigned to the HAMSUNG Training Regt.
On 4 Aug 50, the HAMHUNG Training Regt left for SEOUL by train at night and arrived on 7 Aug 50. On 7 Aug 50, the HAMHUNG Training Regt left SEOUL and marched by night through SUWON, YOJU, WONJU, ANDONG, PONGHWA, and arriving at KNGWONDO o/a 24 Aug 50, where the regt was deactivated and the troops sent to the 10th, 11th and 12th Regts as replacements.
The informant with 30 others were placed in the Division Sig Bn. On 29 Aug 50, the informant was transferred to the 10th Regt's Sig Co. which was in the mountains 10 Km W of POHANG. On 1 Sep 50, the informant’s company marched through the mountains at night and arrived 8 Km W of the POHANG airfield on 8 Sep 50.
On 8 Sep 50, the informant's company was shelled by ROK Forces and he was wounded. He was ordered to the rear, travelling with other wounded. On 9 Sep 50, the informant lost directions while walking through the mountains and arrived 2 Km N of CHUK TONG in S Korean territory where he was taken prisoner. When taken prisoner, the informant was armed with a rifle. (70 rounds).
7. REPLACEMENTS:The informant was one of 2,300 replacements who were received by the 5th Div on 24 Aug 50.
8. ENEMY INTENTIONS:The troops have been ordered to fight to the last man.
The troops were told that unless US Forces withdrew from KOREA, CHINA (Red) will come to their aid.
The mission of the 5th Div is to take the POHANG airfield.
The plan of attack was: the 11th and 12th Regts to attack the airfield from the W; Div Arty to shell the airfield from the S; and the 10th Regt to attack from the E.
9. MORALE:Morale, generally speaking, is very low with the exception of the NCOs and officers.
