ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1028 14 September 1950
FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - Supl No. 1 to 0237) 12 September 1950
(Ref to ATIS Rpt No. 352)

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: CHON Chae Ro (全在潞) (전재호)
PW NUMBER: 63 NK 1532
RANK: Lt
UNIT: 4th Div, Sig Bn, Tng Co.
DUTY: Political Officer
INTERROGATOR: Sgt HAYASHIDA (ATIS)

2. ASSESSMENT:
This report is based upon PW’s opinions only. PW is still pro-Communist.

3. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
Subject has not seen or heard of any Chinese Communist or Russian units in North or South KOREA. There has been no indication that units were to arrive. There were no new combat North Korean units in South KOREA. The only units in occupied areas are the security units but subject does not know designations or strength.

4. EMPLOYMENT OF FOREIGN UNITS:
Subject believes that the Chinese Communists will participate in the Korean War if the N. Koreans alone cannot win the war. The basis for such reasoning is the fact that at present KOREA is in a state of civil war identical to the political situation in Communist CHINA. Subject believes that the Peoples Armies of Communist CHINA and North KOREA are striving toward a common goal to establish strong nationalistic governments devoid of foreign influence and imperialism. The people of North KOREA and of CHINA have a common enemy (The Western Bloc).
Subject believes that RUSSIA will not openly intervene in the KOREAN War since to do so would be against the policy she has thus far advocated. Communist CHINA has not as yet clarified her stand and subject believes that should the UN forces start to advance, the Chinese Communists will commit themselves to the Korean cause. There has been no speculation as to what Chinese Communist forces will be committed or what routes they will follow. However, subject believes that if such assistance from Communist CHINA should materialize, the logical route of march would be the ANTUNG-SINUIJU Axis.

5. NK AIR AND NAVAL UNITS:
Subject has not heard of any proposed extension of the radius of operation of either forces to south of the 38th parallel. There have been no rumors or movements known to subject that might indicate such a move. Due to the limitations on the capabilities of both forces, PW believes that no such attempts would be made. PW disclaims any knowledge of possible bases of operations.

6. ATTITUDE OF INDIGENOUS PERSONNEL TOWARD UN:
The people of South KOREA will no doubt react favorably toward the UN Forces but the people of North KOREA will not accept UN intervention very lightly. The North Korean people believe that the UN Forces have committed themselves against a free people and it would take years to eliminate the last traces of communism.
