1. ASSESSMENT:
Information on unit limited because PW was placed in 8th division only two days prior to capture.

2. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
While PW’s platoon was advancing on hill on the night of 5 Sep 50, they were met with ROK artillery shell bursts. The platoon immediately dispersed in all direction and disappeared. While PW was descending the hill at 0400 7 Sep 50, he was captured by ROK troops.

3. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
On 20 Aug 50, 1000 men. from YONGJU, ages between 17 to 35, were placed in the Civilian Labor Group by order of the People’s Army. They were told to bring 3 days rations and an "A" shaped load carrier.
Departed YONJU 24 Aug, marched, arrived "MUNSU" 24 Aug 50.
Labor Group repaired roads and dug ditches along road sides, 3 feet deep x 24 feet wide x 50 feet long (purpose was unknown). Departed "MUNSU" 25 Aug, marched, arrived ANDONG 1 Sep 50. Departed ANDONG 1 Sep 50, marched, arrived 8 Km south of UISONG on 2 Sep 50.
This Labor Group was renamed "Volunteer Group". Men were taught to assemble and disassemble rifles.
Departed 8 Km south of UISONG 4 Sep 50, marched, arrived 8 Km northwest of YONGCHON on 5 Sep 50, where integrated with 8th Division.
PW received an M-1891/30 rifle.

4. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
While PW was repairing road at night from 24 Aug to 5 Sep 50, (from YONGCHON to UISONG), he saw a civilian labor group in one long line carrying ammo on A-shaped carriers followed by an unknown number of NK troops.
The road between YONGCHON to UISONG was passable by truck. If the trucks came to a broken bridge they usually forded the river.

4. ENEMY INTENTION:
Mission was YONGCHON.

5. MORALE:
This unit was largely constituted of South Koreans, the officers and NCO’s being the only regulars. The morale of these South Koreans was near the breaking point. They resented having been ordered to serve as laborers, and furthermore, they had no intentions of serving as rifleman.

6. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENTS:
PW stated that the South Koreans did not welcome the North Korean troops. They were afraid to go out on the street because of fear of being shot.
