PW has little or no information concerning EEI requested. He has not heard of a N. Korean Air Force. Against the combined might of the UN, PW believes N. Korea is faced with inevitable defeat.
3. SPECIAL EEI:a. Foreign Communist Forces in KOREA:
PW has never seen nor has he heard of any Chinese or USSR units in either North or South KOREA. PW cannot state for certain, nor has he heard, that CHINA or USSR will intervene if and when UN Forces take to the offensive.
The N. Korean Navy, the composition and strength of which are unknown, is engaged in training and coast guard duties. N. Korean navel bases located in CHINNAMP’O (鎭南浦), WONSAN (元山), CH’ONGJIN (淸津), NAJIN (羅津).
WONSAN, CH’ONGJIN and NAJIN serve also as major receiving ports for USSR shipments of arms aid to N. Korea.
PW heard from a superior officer that a large shipment (waterborne) of artillery pieces (120-mm Mortars, 76-mm Guns) arrived after start of hostilities in N. Korea from USSR. Said shipment arrived about the middle of Jul 50, to resupply the already seriously depleted artillery units due to UN air operations. O/a 27 Jul 50, 10th Regt received 5 x 120-mm mortars, reported to be part of the afore-mentioned shipment.
b. Civilian Personnel:
If and when UN Forces take the offensive, civilians in areas retaken by the UN Forces will be generally cooperative and perhaps even sabotage the withdrawing Communist Forces.
The above is true only south of the 38° Parallel. If the UN offensive is carried into N. Korea, a greater part of the civilians, thereof, will be at least passively hostile, and might even take up active resistance as guerrillas.
