Cooperative, information extremely limited because PW is not only illiterate, he is stupid. He was used by his officers and NCO’s as an errand boy for odd jobs. He wants to remain a PW as long as possible.
3. T/O & E OF UNIT:Telephone Co, Sig Bn had 16 telephones (Type unk) plus unknown number of wire reels. Each man armed with rifle (Type unk), all equipment was in poor condition and often malfunctioned.
4. PERSONALITIES:15th Div, Sig Bn, Telephone Co, 2nd Plt Ldr: SHIN Byong Sik (신병식), Jr Lt, age approx 30.
5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 5 Mar 50 at HOERYONG into the Democratic Youth League Training Unit. Received 3 months basic training, but never fired rifle at HOERYONG.
Departed from HOERYONG in Jun 50 by railroad, with the entire 15th Div (PW stated that the Democratic Youth League Training Unit had been redesignated to the 15th Div, date unknown), and arrived somewhere near 38th parallel.
Proceeded on foot, dates and route unknown, to unidentified village approx 4 km N of YONGCHON where PW was ordered by his Plt Ldr to carry rice to four members of the 2nd Plt, who were supposedly in YONGCHON. While proceeding down the road to YONGCHON by himself, PW was captured by ROK soldiers on 8 Sep 50.
6. MISCELLANEOUS:Observed leaflets dropped from aircraft during Aug 50. PW did not pay attention to leaflets as they had no pictures on them.
