Cooperative but, due to being in a training unit for only a short period, information was limited. Reliability fair.
Source was a former ROK captured by the 6th NK Div at AN-HUNG MYON (area) 14 Feb 51. Source escaped from the NK 6th Div. Training Unit 8 Mar 51 at approx. 8 km N of place of capture and then was picked up by the UN Forces 9 Mar 51 at vic of DS280480.
a. Mission and Disposition:
O/a 23 Feb 51, the 6th Div Hq, with the attached Training Unit, moved to approx 4 km N of TANNAE MYON. (8 km N of place of capture.) O/a 24 Feb 51 source and approx 30 other former ROK were ordered to carry 10 wounded NK soldiers to a small village approx 16 km N of the 6th Div Hq. Upon reaching this village (4-5 houses) they turned the wounded over to the medics (observed 7 men with Red Cross band around their left arm) and returned to the Training Unit. 6th Div Hq and the Training Unit was still at the same location when source made his escape 8 Mar 51.
b. CCF:
4 Mar 51 observed at TUNNAE MYON approx. 60 CCF, leading 60 horses loaded with food supplies, heading in northernly direction.
6 Mar 51 observed 20 CCF in a farmhouse approx 4 km N of the 6th Div Hq. These CCF were observed when the source accompanied the Co CO to get some rice from this farmhouse.
c. Personnel:
6th Div Hq, and the Training Unit combined, numbered approx 300 personnel of which 200 were former ROK. These former ROK were assigned to the Training Unit for Communist indoctrination and also as laborers. The training unit was composed of 1st and 2d Co. Each Co had 6 training personnel and 1CO trainees (former ROK).
d. Weapon:
All NKA soldiers of the Div Hq or the Training Unit had either Soviet rifles, carbines, or US M1 rifles. All former ROK were not armed.
e. Food Supply:
Food confiscated from the small villages in the TUNNAE MYON vic was always insufficient.
f. Clothing:
All NKA troops were in winter uniform and former ROK were still in their SK uniforms.
g. Contagious Disease:
Observed in TUNNAE MYON some villagers ill due to some contagious disease (symptom: high fever) and heard from other villagers that this sickness was contagious.
h. Morale:
The morale of the Training Unit personnel was high and they claim that the final victory will be theirs, however the morale of the former ROK troops was low.
