2. ASSESSMENT:
Appeared to be in good physical condition at interrogation and were both farmers prior to entering the CNA. Surrendered voluntarily with three other soldiers of the 3d Co. PW LI was of average intelligence while PW TSUI was below average. Cooperative, and the information is considered fairly reliable. PW LI recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment:
53d Army composed of the 1st, 2d, 3d Div, Arty Regt, Guard Regt, two Signal Co, two Recon Co, and Two Engr Co.
3d Div composed of the 7th, 8th, 9th Rifle Regt, Guard Bn, Arty Bn, Recon Co, Signal Co, Engr Co, and Wireless Section.
Guard Regt composed of 3 Bn.
7th Rifle Regt composed of 1st, 2d, 3d Rifle Bn, Guard Co, two Arty Btry, Recon Co, and Wireless Section.
Each Bn composed of 3 Rifle Co and HMG Co.
Each Rifle Co composed of 3 Plat.

b. Unit Assignment and Intention:
Heard the following from the unit Political Officer:
Mission of the 3d Div is to hold the present line in order to support the 1st and 2d Div and enable them to withdraw across the HAN River.
3d Div is to withdraw from its present line.

c. Communication:
Runners and telephones were used for communication.

d. Morale:
Morale of unit was extremely low due to the lack of food, lack of HW support and arty and air strikes by UN forces.

e. Chronology:
PW LI was a Pvt in the 60th CNA Army when it capitulated to the CCF at MUKDEN, MANCHURIA in Aug 49. PW TSUI was a cook in the 91st Div, 71st CNA Army for one year prior to retiring. He was forcibly conscripted into the 53d CCF Army at SZUPING CHIEH.
53d Army was organized in 49 immediately after the fall of MUKDEN, MANCHURIA. Majority of the soldiers were former CNA troops and they received two months schooling in communism. 53d Army departed YI-YAN, HUNAN in Aug 49 and arrived CHIAN (Ba 6306) in Sep 50. via CHANGSAH (長沙), HANKOW (漢口), and KAIYUEN (■■). 53d Army crossed the YALU River from CHIAN into KOREA and 30 days later arrived in vic south of HAN River. 15 days prior to surrendering, PW unit withdrew north of the HAN River.
3d Div engaged RCK troops at TOKCHON (BV6904) and suffered very light casualties. The second engagement with the US, ROK, and Turkish troops was at KAECHON (YD5596), and also suffered light casualties.

f. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was insufficient and procured locally. Ammo was also insufficient. Supplies were transported from the rear by trucks. Ko clothing was issued since crossing the YALU River.

g. Replacements:
3d Div received replacements (5-6 men per Co) after crossing the YALU River.

h. Psychological Warfare:
They surrendered voluntarily because they could not endure the suffering any longer.
Heard other soldiers talking about UN leaflets on several occasions. They were influenced by these leaflets and were waiting for an opportunity to surrender.

i. Night Bombing:
PW, LI stated that he witnessed one night air attack in which there were 2 KIA and 7 WIA.
