Cooperative and answered all questions freely. Source was a former ROK soldier (3d Div, 22d Regt) captured by the NKA and used as a litter bearer. Source was not observant and tactical information limited. Information seems fairly reliable.
6 Mar 51 the 2d Regt was defeated in battle at vic of HAGON-NI (phonetic) (approx 2 km SE of HAGUNGJUN-NI (DS2349) and while the unit retreated, source and other men (former ROK) escaped. The three men then hid in the hills to avoid detection by the NK troops and 8 Mar 51, they surrendered to UN troops.
a. Disposition
6 Mar 51, the 12th Div CP was approx 2 km N of HAMGO-GAE (DS2549). Mission of the 12th Div was to setup defensive positions in vic of HAMGO-GAE. The 2d Regt was at HAMGO-GAE but was forced to retreat due to the UN Forces steady advance.
There were 27 men in the Med plat and their duties were to carry wounded soldiers from HAMGO-GAE 2 km N.
b. Officers
Officers in the 2d Regt, although Koreans, spoke very fluent Chinese. Conversations among officers were always in Chinese.
c. Weapons
Only weapons observed within the 2d Regt were PPSH SMG and rifles. Neither saw nor heard of any radios or wireless sets within the 12th Div.
d. Strength
Strength of 12th Div and its elements unk except that PW heard from sod ldr that there were 9 men in each sqd in Rifle Co. 6 Mar 51, heard from N Korean soldier that the 12th Div suffered heavy casualties and that each sqd was cut down to about 3-5 men.
e. Clothing
All troops wore winter uniforms. Officers wore chinese winter uniforms.
f. Disease
O/a 4 Mar 51, observed about 10 men in the 2d Regt suffering from an unk type of disease. Heard from sqd ldr that the men had typhoid. Symptoms were; headache, high fever and pains all over body.

h. 4th Phase Operation
5 Mar 51, heard from sod ldr that the objective of the 4th Phase offensive was ANDONG where they were to regroup and reorganize and prepare for the 5th Phase offensive.
i. Mission
Heard from sqd ldr that the NKA was used to sever UN and ROK MSR and after completing such mission, the CCF would commit themselves in that sector.
