FIELD REPORT (2 DIV LDI - 0251) 5 March 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: PAK Nok (20) Pvt

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative. Information seems reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
7 Jan 51, PW and 80 other ROK soldiers were captured by NKA troops at PANGOK, 8 km S of WONJU, and were taken to PWE in POTOL-GOL (vic of HONGCHON).
13 Feb 51, PW was forced to join 6th NK Div but escaped from hill 1 km N of CHIGURI (DS 273423) night of 4 Mar 51. 5 Mar 51, PW and 2 other former ROK soldiers voluntarily surrendered to UN Forces.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
13 Feb 51, all the prisoners formerly ROK were forced to join 6th NK Div. PW was assigned to 6th NK Div, 15th Regt (Code No 661), 1st Bn, 1st Co, 2d Plat, 4th Sqd.
1 March 51, 1st Bn, 15th Regt, 6th Div, arrived Hill 546 (heard from his Co CO) 700 meters SE of CHIGU-RI (DS 273423) and dug in on east slope.
Bn fought UN troops 3 hr after arriving at this hill and withdraw to hill (DS 283430) and dug in on south slope.

b. Disposition:
2d and 3d Bn, 15th Regt, 6th Div, were at Hill 645, but withdrew 1600 hr 1 March 51.
Last observed 1st Bn CP on side of hill (DS 283430) while escaping from unit 4 Mar 51. CP was in a village of 10 houses.

c. Strength:
Elements of 6th Div were 657th, 659th, and 661st (15th Regt) Regt. Estimated strength of 1st Bn, 15th Regt - 150. Average co strength 30, because each plat had 10 to 13 men.

d. Weapons:
Weapons of 1st Bn, 15th Regt, 6th Div: 82mm mortar, 2 x 60mm mortars, 3 HMG (7 cases of ammo), LMG ea Plat (800 rd ea), 4 PPSH SMG ea Plat (600 rd ea), and each soldier had rifle and 100 rd of ammo and 5 hand grenades.

e. Intentions:
4 Mar 51, heard from Plat Ldr they have to hold hill (DS 283430) for 2 months until CCF troops, airplanes, tanks and arty arrive and then would go into 4th Phase Offensive. Heard from Sqd Ldr these reinforcements were already in PYONGYANG.

f. Food Supply:
1-2 meals per day; mostly millet, beans and corn. Food obtained from villages was insufficient.

g. Clothing:
Every soldier wore winter uniform. Newly captured ROK prisoners are still in GI uniforms.

h. Physical Condition:
Poor, because of fatigue and insufficient sleep and food.

i. Morale:
Low, because one-third of 1st Co, 1st Bn, 15th Regt, 6th Div, are former ROK soldiers and always looking for chance to escape.
