Voluntarily surrendered to I&R, 3d Bn, 19th ROK Regt. In good physical condition at interrogation. Cooperative but of below average intelligence, illiterate. Information is considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology:
6th Co arrived positions approx 2 1/2 km N from TAEDAE-RI approx 6 days ago (6 Mar 51). 6th Co did not engage UN Forces after arriving at positions. PW deserted his unit approx 3 days ago. 6th Co due to heavy losses in men combined with 4th Co approx 1 week ago. 5th Co with Asst Div Commander left to assist NK Unit approx 2 months ago.

Heard when still in CHINA that Regt had Hvy Mortars and Divisions had Mt arty.
d. Mission
Told to hold positions at all costs.
e. Food & Ammo
Food is locally procured and insufficient. Ordinarily 2 meals per day.
f. Other Units
Heard from Co Commander while still N of 38th Parallel approx 2 months ago than 39th, and 40th Armies crossed 38th Parallel with 42d Army.
g. Morale
Morale is low due to lack of food, poor clothing and incessant air strikes and arty barrages.
h. UN Leaflets
Overheard friend reading leaflet. Believed contents and thought to surrender. However, feared being shot by superiors. 70 percent of troops have no desire to fight.
i. Broadcast
Heard plane broadcast clearly approx 15 days ago. Thought to surrender but feared of being shot by superiors. Believes majority of troops have same feeling.
j. Reinforcements
2 men from PW company left approx 2 months ago for replacements but have not returned as yet.
k. Arty
(1) More casualties due to WP than fragmentation shell.
(2) Arty fire very effective
l. Troop Movements
(1) Troop movements made as soon as darkness falls.
(2) Troop movements are usually made over mountain trails.
