2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative and spoke freely.
Reliability - Good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
25 Nov 50: Inducted at KANGGYE and assigned to 503d Unit. Received trng in handling and firing (3 rd) of rifle, also handling and planting of anti-tank and anti-personnel.
20 Dec 50: Entire 503d Unit dep KANGGYE.
29 Dec 50: Arr P’YONGYANG. Received trng on rifle and land mines.
23 Jan 51: 4th Bn dep P’YONGYANG. Heard other Bn went to WONSAN and SEOUL.
3 Feb 51: 4th Bn arr CHUNCH’ON.
8 Feb 51: 4th Bn dep CHUNCH’ON.
15 Feb 51: 4th Bn arr ANHUNG.
22 Feb 51: PW left behind due to frostbitten feet. 4th Bn retreated north.

c. Weapons
Received at P’YONGYANG:
Sqd Ldr and Officers issued PPSH SMG.
All others received Russ Rifles w/50 rd ammo ea.
Approx 20 shovels per Bn.
Received at CHUNCH’ON:
6 hand grenades per man.
150 rd of rifle ammo per man.
2 boxes of dynamite per man. (34 sticks per box - 75 grams per stick)
Supply point at CHUNCH’ON:
A cave located 1 km from a village (approx 50-60 homes), approx 4 km from CHUNCH’ON.
Cave entrance only 5 feet by 5 feet with wooden door but inside is wide and deep.
PW saw a dim light inside the cave - also saw many people working and many boxes. Observed approx 20 trucks outside the cave, and wooden boxes 8” wide, 3’ long and 12” high were unloaded from trucks and carried into cave. Went to cave at night on one occasion to pick up grenades, ammo and dynamite.

e. Mission
Mission of 4th Bn: To blow up bridges and form road blocks by blowing up sides of hill.
No dynamite used up to time of 4th Bn retreat.

f. CCF, Gun Air
15 Feb 51: Arr vic ANHUNG and stayed in same village with approx 1,000 CCF troops.
18 Feb 51: CCF troops dep at night. CCF had rifles and few mortars. No guns, or horses observed.
4th Bn strafed by Jet Planes on two occasions enroute - Approx 10 men wounded on each occasion.

g. Land Mines (Anti-tank and anti-personnel)
No land mines received, planted, or brought down by 4th Bn.
