2. ASSESSMENT:
PW in good physical condition at time of interrogation. Farmer at home address prior to entering CNA 16 Nov 42. 20 Feb 51, PW Platoon was holding a position in vic CS455532 when attacked by UN forces and PW and another soldier were captured. Average intelligence and cooperative. Information considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment
50th Army composed of 148th, 149th, 150th Div, Arty Regt, and Guard Bn.
150th Div composed of 448th, 449th, 450th Rifle Regt, Mortar Bn, and Guard Co.
450th Regt composed of 1st, 2d, 3d Rifle Bn, with 1st Bn consisting of 3 Rifle Co, HMG Co, and Communications Sqd.
2d Co composed of 2 rifle platoons and mortar platoon.
1st Plat composed of two Rifle Sqd and LMG Sqd.

Artillery fire caused most casualties in unit. Air strikes were also very effective.

b. Assignment and Intention
17 Feb 51, 1st Plat received orders from 1st Bn Hq to hold position 2 km S of CS455532. 1st Bn also ordered to defend the same area.

c. Disposition
20 Feb 51, 1st Bn CP was in vic CS455532
17 Feb 51, 150th Div, and the 450th Regt CP withdrew from vic CS455532 to direction of SEOUL.
O/a 15 Jan 51, heard from Bn Political Officer at SEOUL, that Arty Regt (atchd to 50th Army) remained N of 38th parallel.
O/a 17 Feb 51, heard from a soldier of the Recon Unit that the 38th Army withdrew across the HAN River and headed N of SEOUL. (Presumably to regroup.)

i. Communication
Field telephones (Chinese) used by Bn and higher echelons. Lower echelons used runners. Observed two Communications Sqd. When unit withdraws or advances, telephone lines are salvaged only if time permits.

f. Morale
Majority of the men in unit were former CNA soldiers and morale was low because of lack of food, insufficient clothing, fear of air strikes and over expansion. Majority of the men in unit in fair physical condition.

g. Chronology
Volunteered for CNA, 60th Army 16 Nov 42 KUNGPEH-HSIANG (空北鄕) and served with unit until captured by CCF 15 Jan 49 at SEECHWAN (四川). 16 Jan 49, captured CNA 60th Army redesignated 50th CCF Army at HUPEI (湖北). 50th Army received four months of basic training.
23 Oct 50, Army arrived at ANTUNG by train and on same night crossed border on foot to SINUIJU. 50th Army departed SINUIJU on foot 22 Nov 50 and arrived SEOUL 15 Jan 51, via PYONGYANG. At SEOUL, divisions comprising the 50th Army advanced southward taking different route. 150th Div crossed HAN River over the ice vicinity of RR bridge 28 Jan 51, and arrived point approx 30 km SE of SEOUL 15 Feb 51. 17 Feb 51, 150th Div, minus the 1st Bn, 450th Regt, withdrew from vic CS455532 toward SEOUL. 1st Bn received orders from Div Hq to hold position in vic CS455532.
Night of 17 Feb 51, 1st Plat, 1st Bn received orders from Bn Hq to hold position 2 km S of CS455532. 20 Feb 51, 1st Plat attacked by UN forces. PW and another soldier were captured.

h. Food and Ammo Supplies
Fed twice a day which was insufficient. 30 Jan 51, at SEOUL, heard from Bn Comdr that food supplies had arrived from CHINA. However, PW did not see any supplies.
Ammo supplies issued to unit two or three times per month in small quantities. Source of ammo unknown. At present ammo was very critical in his unit.

i. Replacements
No knowledge of replacements arriving in his unit. Believe that wounded personnel are evacuated to SEOUL by litter bearers. Casualties, upon recovering are returned to original units. Wounded personnel occasionally left on the battlefield due to shortage of litter bearers.

j. Psychological Warfare
Picked up many UN leaflets since arriving vic SEOUL, and had intentions of surrendering but did not have opportunity to desert his unit.

k. Prisoners of War
20 Dec 50, observed 2 US PW at P’YONGYANG, heading north on a truck.

l. Foreign Advisors, Technicians and Troops
There was one Chinese interpreter (Korean) assigned to each Co.

m. Medical
Did not receive any immunizations since coming to KOREA. Many men in unit are affected with unknown recurring fever.

n. Effectiveness of Night Bombing
Unit never subjected to night bombing attacks.

o. Chemical
(1) 1 Feb 51, approx 12 km S of SEOUL, men in his Plat given a mouthful of rusty colored liquid (sour tasting). Liquid packed in cans about size of a C-ration can. (No markings on can.) Did not see nor taste liquid previously. A mouthful of this liquid produces stimulating effect similar to intoxicating beverage. Affected by this liquid for three hours. Liquid not issued previously and not used as a pre-attack stimulant.
(2) His unit never issued gas masks and did not receive any type of gas training.
(3) There were no chemical grenades in his unit.
(4) No knowledge of any energy-producing material given prior to an attack (See (1) above.)
