2. ASSESSMENT:
PW in good physical condition at time of interrogation. Uncooperative and of average intelligence. Information obtained is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength, and Equipment:
I NK Corps composed of 8th, and two other Div. 8th Div composed of 1st, 2d, and 3d Regt, SMG Co, Arty Bn, and Comm Plat. 1st Regt composed of 1st, 2d, and 3d Bn. 1st Bn composed of 3 Rifle Co, HMG Co, Med Plat, Comm Sqd, and Mortar Plat. 1st Co composed of 3 Rifle Plat and Med Det.

Artillery and air strikes caused heavy casualties.
SMG Co had 90 PPSH M1941 SMG. HMG Co had 4 M1910 HMG. Riflemen had Russian rifles (M1891/30).

b. Unit Assignment and Intention:
12 Feb 51; heard from Co CO that 1st Regt objective was SUWON. To be joined at SUWON by another unit.

c. Disposition:
13 Feb 51, 1st Regt, 8th Div became disorganized during retreat from KWANAK SAN (CS2046).

d. Communications:
Telephones were used between Co and Bn. Telephone lines were laid on the ground.

e. Personalities:
CHANG, Hyon Sup (장현섭) Capt CO, 1st Co, 1st Bn, 1st Regt, 8th Div

f. Morale:
Majority of the men’s morale was high. Men were of high spirits because they believed that they were liberating South KOREA. Men in his unit were in good physical condition.

g. Chronology:
15 Sep 45, volunteered into YONAN Unit (Korean Communist Unit) at MUKDEN, MANCHURIA. Received one year of Inf training at MUKDEN. 12 Jul 46, transferred to CCF 3d Army, 9th Div, 26th Regt, at TUNGHUA, MANCHURIA. Served and fought with unit and was placed on limited service when wounded in Mar 47. Then employed at a Government Blanket Mfg Co, at TUNGHUA until Mar 48. From Mar 43, attended Veteran’s School at TUNGHUA and studied Political Science and communism until Nov 49.
In Nov 49, came to KOREA and was employed by Home Affairs Dept, NK Gov’t, as a guard until 31 Jan 51.
Commissioned a Lt 22 Nov 50. Assigned to present unit 12 Feb 51 at SEOUL. On the night of 12 Feb 51, 1st Regt crossed HAN River over the ice at TUKTO (CS2855). 1st Regt arrived at foot of KWANAK SAN (CS2046) on the morning of 13 Feb 51. 131300 Feb 51, 1st Regt attacked by UN forces. During this engagement, 1st Co lost 20 men. Night of 13 Feb 51, remnants of 1st Regt headed E from KWANAK SAN. On the following day surrendered to UN forces.

h. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was insufficient. No knowledge of food supplies coming from rear. Ammo also insufficient.

i. Psychological Warfare:
14 Feb 51, observed one UN leaflet in vic CS324434.

j. Medical:
Did not receive any immunizations since Mar 50. There were no typhus cases in unit.

k. Effectiveness of Night Bombing:
PW Co never subjected to night bombing.
