c. Unit Location with Coordinates:
The 3d Regt left SEOUL 12 Feb 51 and arrived at a high mountain approx 6 km, S of TUKTO and approx 2 km E of a dirt road (6 meter wide) leading from SANGJONG NI CS 296436 to SEOUL 0530 13 Feb 51. The Regt position was at south central summit of mountain. 1200 18 Feb 51, troops were ordered to dig in (Foxholes 5’ x 2’ x 1½’ to each man).
Note: Interrogator thinks above position is most likely in the KURYONG SAN CS 285480.
d. Deserted his unit 13 Feb 51 and surrendered himself to UN Forces.
e. Unit Mission:
Heard from his plat ldr that NKA and CCF are advancing towards TAEJON and they are to harass UN Forces so they would follow to SEOUL. In SEOUL the NKA and CCF would over-run the UN Forces, while the others advancing towards TAEJON would cut off UN supply lines at the rear.
f. Heavy Weapons:
5 anti-tank rifles in Regiment.
g. River Crossing:
(1) The 3d Regt crossed HAN River at TUKTO CS 280554 over ice on 2400 12 Feb 51.
(2) No bridging equipment used since the river was frozen over.
h. UN Artillery:
The 3d Regt received a heavy artillery barrage 1200 13 Feb 51 - 0600 14 Feb 51, and he was caught in it. Observed an unestimated number of troops killed while moving from one foxhole to another.
